Anybody do shrimp boils in shrimp stock?

Got some leftover shells frozen I was gonna make stock for something with. Thought about making a stock to use to do a shrimp boil with corn and taters.
Figure it can't be bad, just wonder if it's worth it.

Sounds like a total waste of good stock to me. That is, unless you don't plan on seasoning your water like you would for a normal seafood boil.
Then it would become a total waste of good shrimp.

Thanks, that's the answer I was looking for. Thought it might add some flavor to the corn and potatos.

My take on the corn and potatoes in seafood boils is that they take the flavor of the seafood seasoning and not the product you are boiling.

I'd save the stock for a gumbo. Seems kind of a waste to use it for a shrimp boil.

This. Don't do it...make a gumbo or stew with it. I made some shrimp stock from heads and made shrimp stew. It smelled and tasted like shrimp stew before I put shrimp in it...was delish!

It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to do this. You are already boiling a bunch of shrimp with shells on in water, (with shrimp boil seasoning I assume?). What do you gain by adding a shrimp stock (boiled shrimp shells and water) to it? Like others have said, save your stock for a dish like gumbo or etoufee.

Well my thought was that you boil the corn and potatos for like 20 minutes and only add the shrimp for like 5. Doesn't really give the shrimp flavor much time to soak into the potatoes and corn. But if I did it in stock it would. Plus I already made a big thing of gumbo thats in the freezer with the last batch of stock I had.
I'll just save it for something else though since no one thinks it's worth it.

What do you mean by "shrimp flavor"? Do you literally want your potatoes and corn to have the essence of shrimp when tasting (no salt, spices, etc)? Or are you referring to the flavor of shrimp seasoning that's used in shrimp boils? If that's the case then just let your potatoes and corn soak in the water longer. You can also cut your potatoes in half before boiling them, which will allow the flavor of the water soak in easier.

Don't waste your stock. Use the shells from the boil to make more stock.

I've seen several recipes that call for that but I agree that unless you have gallons of stock just sitting in your freezer, it's a waste.
