I live near Robert market and their “butcher” is awful. Never at the counter, not helpful at all, leaves 2 hours before closing, acts like I spit in his face if I ask him if he can actually do his job and butcher something for me, etc.

We eat a ton of meat and I’m looking for a place that has a butcher who actually does what butchers traditionally do. I’m not high maintenance but having someone who can cut a few filets if they’re not already in the counter would be nice. Does that even exist anymore or is every store in basically the same boat?

Try Iverstine. The only thing is if you want an odd cut you may have to wait. You can try Maxwells as well.

La Morenita has butchers as well. They always are cutting something up every time I’m there. You will need to know Spanish though, or you are pretty much SOL unless it’s a “normal” cut.

Iverstine’s for call ahead special cuts like beef back ribs.

Calandros will cut whatever you want.

I shop at Robert’s often. And I agree, they suck. “Sorry to bother you from your cell phone call over the speaker but can you maybe grab me a couple of these strips?”

I’ve never considered having them cut or separate anything because they suck.

Sad how far they have fallen from the Matherne’s days.

They are my go-to now but if you ask them to cut anything special, you should make sure they are on the same page. I asked them if they could cut a full Tenderloin in 1/2 (they didn’t have smaller ones in the case and I wanted 1 /2 for a roast), he ended up trimming the entire loin cut it in 1/2 and ground up the trimmings/tail. After it was all said and done he said I had to buy it all if they open one up on request. I still buy some meat from them but won’t deal with their butcher anymore.

Freshmarket has some decent butchers and will work with you if you have a request. It is one of the few places I can find beef plate ribs in BR.

Oh, I’d be done with them with that BS. I’m not a Karen but that’s one thing of bring to management. They know they charge a premium. You should get premium service.

I expect nothing from Robert’s. And that’s what I get.

Highland location? Yea its very hit or miss there. They have been getting some very good ny strips in there though. Some of the best looking steaks I have ever seen there. They do seem to just let you sit at the counter forever. I dont ring the bell but maybe I should

Ive always been impressed with Fresh Market. The quality of meat and their selection is pretty big. Butchers are always very attentive

Alexanders is another good place along with Calandros.

Bet-R butcher is always cheerful and helpful, but I don’t ask often or for unusual stuff.

I don’t know if they are a regular butcher, but what I’ve had from Smith Angus Farm in Mt. Hermon (Washington Parish) has been solid. I know they do online orders, I’m not sure if they have a storefront or not.

They must have something on site, after going to the website I learned you have to pick up your order there.

They had prime strips on sale a few couple weeks ago and they were absolutely fantastic. I shop there often out of convenience and you are right. Very hit or miss on beef. Sometimes you lick out with what’s in the case but they’ve flat out told me they were out when I know they had more in the back.

They have high quality meat, but I agree. If it's not already cut and in the counter, I just pass.

If you're willing to pay the premium, Iverstine is the best butcher.

I shop the sales at Roberts all the time due to their meat sales. The ground beef prices are hard to beat. And I stock up when they put the Springer Mountain whole chickens on sale. I've cooked them side by side with normal Sanderson Farms chicken and it's a noticable difference.
