Agreed, berg.
Specs on Hulen in FW has a pretty strong selection.
Specs in Roanoke has a selection that a Target may have.

Gotcha. I call on one specs and it's the smallest in the world. Like a 12 foot beer section then a 40ish foot cold section. I know they can be hit or miss.
Total wine for the most part seems like they cookie cut their stores so they always have a good selection of beer.

Georgia has a law (I think) that limits chains to only allow 2 stores in the state to sell spirits. Take Total Wine for example. Only two Total Wine stores in the state can sell liquor. The other locations are relegated to beer and wine
I didn't know this. I'm glad that the Total Wine on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw is one of the two that sells it.
In Kentucky, grocery stores can sell liquor, but the liquor store area is separate from the grocery area.

The Specs near me, and it’s due to the area, just doesn’t move a ton of craft beer quickly. This causes IPAs and pale ales to sit on the shelves.
However, the positive of that is a few months ago, they received a shitton of BA Ten Fiddy and Boulevard Bourbon Quad that they couldn’t move off the shelves, except for pretty much when I passed by. Makes it a nice honey hole for beers that are good while they sit.

Mine goes through everything fast so I never have to worry, but when new linited stuff comes out, it's gone before the day is over.

Y'all just see the consumer level absurdity. TABC has some dumb fricking laws for the distributor/retailer level.

TABC is funny how they set up a table to collect taxes for people getting off of a cruise in Texas. If you have liquor, come over here and pay Texas taxes before you leave the state to consume it. Yeah, OK Mr Tax man, I'll be right over!
As F'ed up as Louisiana is I'll take an HEB or a Specs. Either one. I'm not greedy!

A guy I know was a liquor distributor for a long while and he would tell me about the rackett going on in Texas. It’s almost Mafia-esque for big chains places to get a liquor license. Small shops would go out of business.

shite Oklahoma can't even sell real beer or wine in grocery stores until October.
Their liquor laws are so retarded. You can't even sell mixers at a liquor store, or cold beer above 3%

Used to love shopping at the specs in midtown Houston, I could get a solid 4-5 free liquor shots on some days

Tyler TX used to be dry, so there were several liquor stores along Hwy 31 outside the city limits. Tyler finally voted in alcohol sales in town, and all but one of those big liquor stores is now closed and crumbling.
It is a graphic demonstration of how much tax revenue a dry town gives away.
The Fresh by Brookshires in Tyler has a heckuva beer and wine selection for a grocery or even a liquor store. It’s the only one of its kind, sort of a concept test I guess. It is amazing and way better than our local Whole Foods. Well worth a visit if in the area.

All the cold beer you can buy is only 3.2
I used to laugh at the poor country baws from other states who made their way into Louisiana for crawfish boils and Mardi gras, poor bastards didn't realize even a standard Budweiser carried some real weight behind it.
Saw many a guy humbled by the knowledge that he could drink a case of 3.2 beer.
The one thing Louisiana does fairly well is the sale of alcohol.

It was really stupid in 1980 when I moved to Dallas.
One side of the street could sell, the other could not.
Now, MADD has bought and paid the politicians or put the FEAR OF GOD in them... can't hardly open a club at all....51 % of business to be done in none alcoholic products (i.e. food)
The same with cigar stores.. can not open a cigar store and get a liquor license in Dallas.
They grandfathered 3 or so cigar bars in.

In Dallas ... between blue laws and liquor laws it was hard to buy liquor.
The little township of Buckingham, between Richardson and Dallas (about 4 square blocks allowed it and reaped the tax benefits for decades.
There would be traffic cops at the 3-4 liquor stores while Dallas watched...then Dallas decided to go for the money, at least in part.

Specs vary widely from store to store. One store near me has a beer selection that is no better than the local gas station. Another is fairly average and a third has the best beer selection in NW Harris County. It all depends on the manager for that department.
Some just stock whatever the distributors are bringing in the door and other managers listen to their customers and bring in a good selection of local/Texas beers.
And of course the mothership Specs downtown has the best beer selection in Houston.
