I long Consider BBQ a pretty big hole in NOLA’s cuisine but now we have Blue Oak, Central City, a couple Moe’s and I hear Good things about the Joint. I imagine We have less BBQ places than most cities but the ones that are there get good reviewsz
LA23 in Belle Chasse may be the best in the area.
Article is stupid beyond belief, though.

BBQ Shrimp is more of a seafood dish to me
I wouldn’t consider is BBQ either
Louisiana has a completely underrated culture of slow smoked meats. But they’re mostly sausages and there is couch de lait.
But now we have pretty good traditional BBQ places.

It’s based on average trip advisor ratings.
So I assume Lots of big BBQ places have a ton of completely overrated BBQ places that get bad reviews:

Not with brisket that looks like this.

I don’t understand tourists coming to New Orleans to eat bbq
I think per capita the scene is fine. It’s good, not great.

A city not in the high or low of rankings here, Charleston, had 5 amazing BBQ places in a few mile radius that are better than any place in New Orleans.
This rating metric is dumb. Proves you can make whatever point you want about anything if you set up the study in the right way.

I love blue oak bbq and New Orleans food, but that’s ridiculous.
Texas bbq destroys Louisiana.

It's certainly good for what it is and has stepped up with some decent places in recent years. New Orleans is still not close to a "Top 10 BBQ city" in the country, nor should it even really aspire to be.

Seattle? Not sure about its bbq but I once tried the gumbo up there and it tasted like salsa.

There are probably more good BBQ shops in Texas but there are also probably a million shitty ones bring their average down.
New Orleans doesn’t really have shitty BBQ places.

This just demonstrates why this rating system is horrible. I could not possibly care less who has the best average. If I'm travelling somewhere for BBQ, NOLA is not in the top 10 of places I'd go. All I care about is who has the best.

I wouldn't Go to NOLA for BBQ either.
It’s a weird approach. I’m not going to eat at all 300 places that sell BBQ in St Louis/Nashville
I’ll probably only eat at the 2-3 best if I’m there

Per capita makes sense for BBQ because there really isn’t much variance at the top. Only so much you can do but you start getting into sides & stuff, then you can separate a little. It’s why blue oak is hard to put in that echelon. It’s like they don’t even try with the sides
That being said, trip advisor is a poor litmus, tho I understand there isn’t much to draw info like that comprehensively.
