I’ve followed just about everything he’s ever done all the way back to the early Good Eats days. Dude just knows his shite.

Probably an unpopular opinion but not a big fan of AB. He may be a great cook but watching him makes me cringe.

I guess his style is cooking injected with a little history, food science, humor. That’s why it takes 30 minutes. If you’re looking for a direct how to cook a recipe video, it’s brutal.

yup, been his style since day 1. The science and history portions i like just as much as the instructional. i understand it might not be for everyone.

Back in the 80s-90s, I enjoyed watching Ciao Italia on the telly.

I've watched most of his shows, bought one of his books, and watch the YouTube series.

But I know what you mean about the cringe. It's not the science or history--those are fine--it's the efforts at humor. I suffer through those to get the substance of the programs.

Humor is subjective, so that's understandable. I'm personally usually into it though, even the sort of intentionally cringeworthy jokes.

Good eats is one of the things that got me into cooking, though. In my opinion you don't really watch it to learn how to cook a specific recipe, though occasionally you can do that. For me, it's the learning WHY you want to do x y or z thing when you're cooking stuff or how it works that I always appreciated. I'm going to forget the recipe. Hell i was probably only going to half follow it anyway. But I'll remember the important bits of why im doing the things and how it works. The way my brain works I like that kind of stuff.

I've always enjoyed his cooking shows and will check this one out.

Alton was the commencement speaker at my daughter's graduation. It was, by far, the best commencement address I have ever heard.

yes

Alton teaches technique which is far more useful than an individual recipe. For example…”the muffin method”
