So the question is Bud Light in a can (and drank from a can, say on a boat) vs. NOLA Blonde in a can. I'll take the latter each time.

This is my point as well. Not arguing straight from the container vs. in a glass.

I'm completely indifferent. Shitty can beer is still going to be shitty in a bottle. However some beers simply can not be canned. Some can be, no pun intended. However the taste of the beer is based on just that, the taste. The can has minimal to zero effect on the flavor.

some brews do suck if you drink from the bottle

I am not sure I am that discerning. I need to explore this some.

p.s. I love beer threads. And I don't even drink a ton.

However if you just started a brewery it should just be in your best interest to make sure people like your beer served appropriately to begin with.

I think that by now, most people that would buy Abita or NOLA or Tin Roof in cans over BMC brands probably know what they're getting.

And in an ideal world, all beer would be served in proper glassware, but it's just impractical sometimes.

I've drank good and sometimes great craft beer straight from the bottle or from the can or in the wrong glassware before, and I'd still prefer that to BMC products.

So I guess my plastic LSU cups are not for every style?

I would agree about Abita but I dont really think NOLA has been widely accepted or around long enough.

Sure if you have to drink out of a can then by all means it should be better (although I have never had NOLA Blonde in a can)

Im referring to the newer breweries making thier beer widely available in a can prior to them becoming an accepted good beer.

If you can only get it in a can and drink from the can and never had it served on tap or from a bottle. Would you be more likely to trade the new beer with your old fav? My point is that new breweries should put their best foot forward when trying to get new customers. That making their brews widely available in cans and not bottles can be a mistake.

Might have to try it. Usually that style is a bit too much for me.

It's a lot. One can of it can go a long way in taster snifters of course.

Try different Beligian brews out of a bottle then out of at least a goblet style glass and you see a ton of difference.

Well Im more talking about judging if a beer is good or not. If you like something like NOLA Blonde then you probably already decided that after trying it on tap. So getting it from a can would at most make you think that you like it but prefer to get it off of tap.

If you were trying to decide if Tin Roof was as good as a Nola brew though and you only had Nola on tap and not in a can. Then Nola already has and edge on the Tin Roof brew you are about to drink.

Now for the record so nobody misunderstands what I am saying.. If Im going to go tailgate and I walk into a grocer and I know I can only have cans and my only options are Natty Light or Abita Amber in the can. Im going to choose the Amber 100% of the time. I will also likely drink it from the can too since Im not judging if I like that brew or not I already know what it tastes like.

i see your point but i think serious beer drinkers will give a beer a shot, no matter bottle or can. [link=( https://www.oskarblues.com/)]Oskar Blues Brewery[/link], for example, only cans. that is the only way i have ever had their beer. that is was only available in cans was never a deterrent to me trying the beer. and, their beer is excellent. i think the stigma can be overcome, as people become more informed.

Agree.

And the swill drinkers won't be turned from the swill no matter the container.

You're not; I can taste the aluminum when drinking from a can.

I'm not arguing the point. Just wanted to rib Catman a little.

80% of the beers I drink come from the tap. If given the chance, everything else I drink gets poured into a glass.

I'm happy to see more canned beer make it to the market.

Amen. Which is why I have my own two tap kegerator at home where I can control the CO2 and clean my lines frequently. I also get beer that has been brewed within three weeks or less most of the time.

In order of preference:

1) On tap
2) Can poured into a glass
3) Bottle poured into a glass
4) Out of a can
5) Out of a bottle
