AB bought Goose Island 6 years ago. Impacts?

How time flies
On March 28, 2011, Goose Island announced that Anheuser-Busch InBev was buying not only the 42% stake in Goose Island owned by Craft Brew Alliance but the remaining 58%, for a reported $38.8 million.
so everybody gets honkers ale and 312 wheat. hooray. i don't know anyone drinking those beers
the increase in BCBS is noticeable. easily best part of the deal
GI makes other beers that still have not sniffed south of St Louis. I had hoped that big john and nightstalker would get more distribution, but that has not been the case
the deal did open the door for the later deals that now provide us with sculpin, space dust, etc. i guess that i just foolishly expected more

The Sisters is another benefit. Those are still really good beers. Hard to justify $25 on a 765ml bottle though.

I have drank more of their sours and BCBS than before they were bought by AB.
I have drank about the same amount of the core brands as I would have before.

This is what I don't get. The only thing they are readily distributing are their most ordinary beers that are basically interchangeable 50 other brands in the grocery coolers. Same seems to be true with Elysian.

For AB it is not about making quality beer it is about getting the name, then making mediocre at best beer. They just need something to sell to unsuspecting customs looking for craft options.

Sofie being available at the gas station that I can walk to is pretty nice

Goose Island IPA was the best beer available at a concert I went to in NOLA last year.

2014 was the last great year for BCBS. They have now moved it to more expensive, less convenient packaging. The beer is now pasteurized. And it is thinner in flavor and consistency. All the variants I have had since 2015 been disappointing.
Only good thing for me is the widespread availability of Sophie, which is still pretty good.

I'd still place BCBS in my top 10 of all beers. It's damn good, but pisses me off that they don't brew it in chicago anymore.

Rouge - we were talking about this while standing in the 10 Barrel Brewpub a few weeks ago. The beer there was very good, but we all drank one offs. That has always been a problem with 10 Barrel - they don't distribute their best beers.
I never buy those distributed beers, anyway, so it doesn't bother me. I would think that increasing the production for Goose Island is inevitably going to cause a problem with the quality of the beers, as they farm out the production to other facilities with more capacity.
The place was packed, and the talent there at 10 Barrel was unreal, BTW, especially for 1:00 in the afternoon... I think we all agreed that 10 Barrel was the most fun place we went to that day, and the rooftop bar wasn't even open.
It's 80 and sunny here today, so it would be a great day to hit it up...
