In a nutshell, that's pretty much it.

Honestly, if I didn't care about Baton Rouge, the people who make up this city and future generations, or the future of this city in general, I promise you, I surely wouldn't take the controversial positions I do and run the risk of getting blasted for taking such positions. I'd just talk about something else. It's a whole lot easier.

Mike's problem is he overvalues food so much he thinks that a better food environment would make BR a great place

Yeah I do place a high value on food, and yeah, I think a better food environment would make BR a great place.

Why don't you, and besides water, air, and a planet that works, what's more important than food? Might that be because we haven't had to really do without it that we take it for granted?

SFP... I am sorry that you simply CANNOT debate the issues without making this a personal attack on me. All that tells me really is that you really cannot.

I'm not about scoring "points" - what I am about is pointing out the absolute insanity of your stance. Your views on this subject are so far off from center, I have no recourse but to call it like I see it.

You're not the "bad guy" - this isnt good vs evil (although I suspect the way you romanticize yourself it is just that to you) You have simply taken an extreme stance on an issue. So extreme that others, like myself, feel compelled to point out the ridiculousness of its nature.

Couldn't have said it better. It's so pretentious that it is laughable.

I have to be honest. TA has really grown on me. He has a lot of knowledge and gives solid recommendations. I used to think he was just a NOLA knight but he is very complimentary of other areas as well including Houston, Atl, and the MS delta area.

I'd slam back a few beers with the guy.

food is important for nutrition

you're talking about your preferred TASTE in food

don't fricking act like humans require good tasting food to survive

This is what I think of chain restaurants:
All I got out of that was that your life goals obviously didn't work out as you envisioned, but instead of looking inward, you would rather blame chains, the patrons that go there, and anything else under the sky for your lack of success.

Honestly, I'm sorry it hasn't worked out as you planned. I've given a couple of different things in life a shot that haven't panned out. It sucks, and it's frustrating, but you have to move on to something that does work out rather than stick to the same old things that aren't working and just blame others for it.

Fine food is #28473 on most people's priority list on a given day. I realize that if it were more of a priority, then your chosen profession would have more importance. But again - if doing something highly-regarded to the masses is your goal, then do something highly-regarded to the masses. Simply telling the masses that they should have higher regards for what you do isn't going to work.

Have you lost your mind?

Look...

Black guy tries to speak eloquently and is told by those in his neighborhood he's just trying to be white.

Redneck white guy tries to speak eloquently, and he's told that he's trying to be better than everyone.

MDT proposes some common sense concepts that aren't foreign to most university communities, which I would call TD.com, and he's told he's a pretentious arse.

ALL I'VE EVER frickING DONE is tried to stress the fact that it is US who make up this market, (right SFP?) and so then it's clear that it's US that can make it better.

If you have no interest in that, then I have no idea why you are even posting on a FOOOOOOOOD BOARD to begin with, unless this is just a place to keep all the food topics OFF of the OT, which the more I post the more I am coming to realize that that is all this really is in the end, another OT.

So you know what? I'm out. I'll no longer post on here, and you all can sit around and enjoy the fact that nobody will ever present anything bigger than what we have to chew on. Nothing deeper than a good ole WFDT thread, and some real giddy thread over what's the next chain restaurant to open up in Baton Rouge.

It's all yours fellas. Knock yourselves out. Peace!

What don't you understand about the fact that the market HAS ALREADY CHOSEN

better to you maybe - but that's only b/c you disagree with what has already been chosen. Essentially, you want people to have the choice.....only so long as they choose what you want them to choose. If they don't, you want to choose for them.

But the problem is you spend half your time crying about what other people do

i think it is "better" for the vast majority of people in this country. i don't think your dream world is better than today

that's the major flaw in this entire persona you've developed. you presume that your values in a very minute area are the "Right" values, and you look down on people who don't have the same values

you fail to realize that your values likely are lesser, and your ideal world would NOT be better

i've made a few threads about food just this week!

I might not totally agree with MTT, but what's wrong with wanting to support local eating establishments over chains? I admit I visit chains every now and then for convience, but I'd much rather eat at a local place with character (or at home).

I think it would be more productive for him to start a thread about good local restaurants using local ingredients rather than resort to attacking the chains....

Nothing at all, and I doubt anyone disagrees. That's not at all what he was doing here, though. It was his latest menstruation about Baton Rouge.
