Just a fair warning to all that go...the area is bad...park close and do not leave anyhting sitting out in view in your car.

FWIW, it used to be a lot worse of an area prior to Katrina.

The beginning of the review says that Willie Mae's is in the lower ninth ward. MAJOR FAIL.

It's funny how this has become the new national designated moniker for seemingly EVERY predominately black neighborhood in New Orleans, and even most of the surrouding area.

It's only open 11-3. The chicken was good, but a little overly salted and somewhat overrated, IMO. Service was horrible. There was only one server and it took forever to get our orders taken and served. I've heard of a place on Broad called McHardy's that is supposed to have really good fried chicken.

It is ridiculous. I think it is the Spike Lee/Mainstream media syndrome.

that's my opinion as well. haven't found chicken in NOLA that clearly beats fresh chicken from the popeye's on magazine. I hear Firoella's is good, but i always forget about it.

fwiw, Silver Moon > Willie Mae's, esp in terms of value.

I bet some folk in the Sixth Wod' would not be happy about that.

Treme keeps it real on Mardi Gras Day...that's all I am saying.

Speaking of, I drive through the Lower 9 the other day...all over it...there is maybe 100 people total living there...it is not scary at all...just vacant lots and Brad Pitt's houses he is building.

I miss the day when the Florida Ave. bridge connected the two worst neighborhoods in the city...back when Florida/Desire projects were next to each other and the Lower 9 kept it real.

Is Fiorella's even open anymore? I heard it shut down a few months back.

OK, I just found out that it reopened under new management. I'll check it out this weekend while my beautiful wife is in the French Market purse-shopping.

Fiorella's is open....and clean now, which is a new one.

I heard they also open just a fried chicken restaurant/stand in the Quarter on the corner of Exchange Alley and Conti.
