36” all gas range: Thermadore or bluestar

I’ve narrowed it down to these two. Thermadore with all discounts and free dishwasher comes out to $1700 more than the bluestar + purchasing separate dishwasher.
Thermadore is more refined looking, gliding racks, sealed burners.
Bluestar is more “industrial”, open burners.
Thoughts?

Try to envision which one would be more of a pain in the arse to clean

I believe that would be the bluestar.

I went with a Bluestar. I can repair any part of it myself. No electronics, no circuit boards to fry in the high heat.

Naw, the BlueStar is a snap to clean, it has like three parts.
. I had one, loved it. Oven sucked, but the range was bad arse, with no electronics. I had to replace igniters on a couple of the burners, but they were like $20 and it took less than than five minutes. I have a Wolf in the house I just bought and I may replace it with a BlueStar.

Bluestar...get a cool color too.

We are finishing a remodel and went with the Thermadore. Wife liked the sealed burners and self cleaning oven aspect. Hope to move in within the month and start cooking on it.

how are the factory knobs on bluestar rcs? are they sturdy or flimsy?
Also, for the bluestar folks here, what model do y’all have? RCS, RNB, or platinum?

I never found them to be flimsy. In fact, I prefer them to the knobs on my Wolf. That's an odd question!

RNB, with two high BTU burners on front, one 10k in back and one low simmer burner.

Sold my house that had a Thermador induction cook top and bought a condo that has a Wolf gas stove.
I'm sitting here this morning, waiting for a large pot to boil water for pasta. I can't believe how much longer the gas stove takes to boil a large pot of water. I really miss my induction cook top.
At least, the gas stoves look cooler and are harder to clean.

Not if you’ve owned a GE cooktop that has cheap arse knobs that strip out in a few years, then cost over $50 to replace. They should go to prison for that shite.

I refrained from posting about induction in here because I always get chastised for bringing it up in gas range threads.
But induction has nearly every benefit of gas, plus boils water faster, looks better, and is easier to clean.
To each their own.

Yes, I’d love induction. But where I live, gas is cheaper to operate and more reliable as a fuel source. Never lost gas service, even after Katrina. Have spent weeks without electricity multiple times post tropical weather events. We all have our own particular requirements. OP asked specifically about gas stoves.
If I lived in an area with all underground electric transmission lines, or a place without routine violent weather, I’d happily consider induction. Til then, it’s gas for me in south LA.
ETA: stand alone induction burners are a nice addition to a kitchen. You can take it outside to fry something stinky, or have an extra burner that couple times a year when you need it.

I've decided to go with the Bluestar RCS 36" open burner model. I asked about the knobs because the RCS comes with black knobs. I wanted to be sure they weren't some chinchy plastic knobs. They are in fact painted black metal knobs. Talking to the dealer and to blue star directly, the main differences betwee the three tiers (RCS being the lowest, then RNB then Platinum) are BTU output and burner configuration. For the RNB you can also get it in different colors.
Burner outputs for 36":
RCS: 5@15k, 1@8k
RNB: 2@18k, 3@15k, 1@8k
Platinum: 2@22k, 3@ 15k, 1@8k Plus you get some sort of griddle/grill conversion top to use
And if i ever feel the need for 18k or 22k BTU, the RNB or Platium burners are available after market and i can upgrade.
Thanks for yall help.

Bluestar - get the open burner too.
I had this exact same decision to make about 6 months ago, and went with Bluestar. its not hard to clean at all.
you will not be disappointed.
