Littleman, what's the best place in Dc? Its for Tuesday night so not worried about reservations. I got good advice here, but you seem to be a globe trotter. I'm jealous, I only go on two or three vacations a year, I wish I could go to half those places.

Great. Thread.

Littleman got a burr in his saddle and went off. I've been to around 30 states and 17 countries and can't remember half of it. I just go and do. Littleman is like a culinary/travel Rainman. Remembers everything.

There must be some back story to this thread that I missed along the way.

I took a limo from downtown SF 30 minutes across the bay to Chez Panisse and spent a lot of $$. I have had more fun at Doe's Eat Place.

Chez Panisse

The appeal of this place seems completely overblown to me. I admit, I've never been, though, and don't doubt it's a really good restaurant.

I started going 45 years ago. My 40 year old son sat in a high chair there. The lady below waited on us. I have been 100 + times my guess. You been there that many times. You got some balls.

My papaw used to run hooch for Dominick (Big Doe) during the Depression. Along with bootlegging papaw was also commecial fisherman and supplied the place with catfish. That was back in the days when it was blacks only. My dad was 5 when Mrs. Mamie died and he still has the picture of him at her funeral. I personally didn't start going until 1977, which was the year I was born. That is where we went after my Christening for lunch (even thought they don't do lunch). They say Little Doe Christened me with butter off of the bbq shrimp, but I think that was just talk. Poppa D was retired by then, but I can still remember him being in there when I was growing up. I used to stay with Uncle Charles in the summers and fish in the lake behind his house. I would also bus tables some and tag along with Mrs. Georgia in the kitchen from time to time. Uncle D pulled my first tooth by attaching a string to it and slamming the screen door out front. I'm not sure how many times I've been there, but I would put the number at 500+.
