I ate there last month and it was a massive disappointment. Steak was not good quality and did not have much flavor. Sides were meh. Our server seemed completely disinterested. The highlight of the meal was the cheesecake, which I think they don’t even make in-house.
I've heard this from several people that have eaten at Luger's recently.

What are some Italian ideas if I'm staying at Lotte Palace?

I used to work in that area and I don't recall it being a great area for Italian. Marea on Central Park South, though I haven't been there since Michael White sold it. Il Mulino is alway solid.

I agree with River Cafe. Old school place with beautiful views. Get the branzino.

Piccolo Angelo is a great little Italian place that is about a 15 walk/5 minute Uber-cab ride from your hotel.

If price is no object, the two best meals I have had in New York were at Jean Georges and Eleven Madison Park. EMP is now a vegan restaurant and I went there before they changed, but I understand it is still spectacular.

A little less ambitious is Balthazar, a French restaurant on Spring St. which we enjoy very much.

Then there is pizza. We like John's just off of Times Square and Lombardi's in Chinatown. We also like the original Grimaldi's which we get to by walking over the Brooklyn Bridge.

No trip to NY is complete without a trip to LeBernardin...simply the best fish in the world ...they have other non-fish items that will rock your world also...its consistently rated the #1 restaurant in the City!

Luger’s is like a bucket list type place. But once you finish your meal, you realize it’s pretty poor compared to most high end steakhouses. It’s a totally forgettable meal.

I second the rubirosa recommendation for Italian.

Price point doesn’t really matter. It’s a business trip so will be 3 of us. All guys. Scenery would be nice. One night want Italian. Open to anything though, really.

Go try Cafe Spaghetti and then go to Bonnie’s. Hit up la bicyclette bakery.

In-laws are weird and moved to manhattan in their 70’s so now I have to go once a month.

Campagnola on 1st Ave. is a great old school Italian place. Jacob’s Pickle on upper west side is a solid lunch spot. Plenty of steak places to choose from, we go to Wolfgang’s on Greenwich for consistent delicious steak when we’re in the mood.

If you don't try the Clam Chowder at The Grand Central Oyster Bar your trip is a failure. After...visit Rudy's bar (midtown) for cheap drinks and free hot dogs.

Rudy’s is a cool spot because it’s such a dive like 2 min from Times Square but certainly not a must see

Holy shite. Went here last night. Legit authentic Italian. I felt out of place cause I didn’t speak Italian. The food was amazing.
