Dunno - I'm not sure how the pairings are decided upon!

My 8 from FQ/Wharehouse for whoever is running that section.

5) Central Grocery
6) Pelican Club

If only two from the westbank are allowed, then I have to go with:
1. Clementine's
2. Mosca's

As a member of the selection committee, I'm going to try to keep my choices to myself until the selection commences. But I will say that your list is not a 100% accurate reflection of my thoughts on the matter. But we'll see.

anybody have any favorite places in lake charles they would like to recommend?
Posted on 3/25/09 at 8:50 pm to LSUZombie
so when are we going to see some brackets here ??
Posted on 3/25/09 at 9:28 pm to TigahRag
this thing is going to be a mess
putting the powerhouse NOLA restaurants in this bracket is like putting the top 8 teams in the Big East into the LHSAA Boys 4A Bracket to see who wins

Again, looks like we will make a formidable team.
We are looking like a Big East All-Star team.
Off course it looks like we are shooting fish in a barrel. Have a good night clooney. Let's start making some selections tomorrow, upon mutual agreement. We do need some kind of paramters that need to be set. Later.

Due
Due to concerns about ignorance Plan #1 has been scrapped. Plan #2 is in effect.
Plan #2.
The regionals will be as follows.
Old New Orleans
(7 FQ, 5 Uptown, 4 at large bids)
Yat New Orleans
(3 Mid-City/Lakeview, 1 Gentilly/ 8th and 9th Wards, 1 Chalmette, 5 East Jefferson, 2 West Jefferson, 4 at large bids)
Florida Parishes to Acadiana
(3 Northshore, 4 Baton Rouge, 3 Lafayette, 2 Acadiana, 5 at large bids)
North Louisiana and Etcetera
(2 Houma/Thibodaux, 1 Lake Charles, 2 Alexandria, 3 Shreveport, 2 Monroe, 5 at large bids)
glassman, clooneyisgod, and niknik are responsible for Old New Orleans seeding.
Brock Landers and Tiger Attorney are responsible for seeding the 16 Yat New Orleans restaurants.
Catman and supatigah, with help from others for Northshore restaurants, are responsible for seeding the 16 Florida Parishes to Acadiana regional.
LSUZombie and LSUGUMBO (and another unnamed Monroe member) are responsible for the North Louisiana and Etcetera seeding.
AT LARGE bids do not, I repeat, do not, have to come from your regional geography. An Old New Orleans member can pick Johnny's if they want.
We are still looking for a worthwhile Monroe/Alexandria member.
Plan #1
Each of the Selection Committee members will submit a list of their 64 top restaurants. These choices must fit into the geographical parameters in the beginning of this thread (i.e., 8 from the French Quarter, 5 from Uptown, etc.) Your 15 at large bids can come from any place. These lists should be informed by expert opinions, so do not fail to look at what others have to say. When making your list, you should write the number of points, not position, of the restaurant. In other words, if you think Johnny's Pizza is the #1 restaurant in Louisiana, do not put #1; put 64. If Cane's is your #64 choice, do not put 64, put 1.
A restaurant that gets voted #1 by a committee member gets 64 points. A restaurant that gets voted #10 gets 55 points. A restaurant that gets voted #64 gets 1 point. A volunteer (who?) will put together the votes and we will have a consensus top 64.
Seeding will then take place. The top four restaurants will get #1 seeds. The 5 to 8 seeds will get #2 seeds. The 61 to 64 seeds will get #16 seeds. The committee will then determine together to which regional each restaurant is sent. The four regionals are Old New Orleans, Yat New Orleans, Bayou Country, and North Louisiana.
Committee members must remember that this is not necessarily an elitist competition. The finest and most expensive restaurants do not necessarily deserve a higher seed than a more popular, populist restaurant.

TulaneLSU...what a great idea.
Thank you all for the vote of confidence!
I would be knowledgable enough to cover New Orleans, Westbank and NorthShore.

How many restaurants do i need to come up with for the Lake Charles area?
Posted on 3/26/09 at 9:38 am to LSUZombie
When it's all said and done, we should try to organize a dinner at the #1 spot.

I like that idea too - hopefully nobody moans about how much it costs.

From what I understand you submit a list for all 64 spots.

How many Broken Eggs are there?
There are 12 throughout the gulf coast...but, the Old Mandeville Original location is not part of the franchise, Baton Rouge is under a franchise agreement...however; I think eliminating chain restaurants is like not allowing State schools in the tourny. There are many "University of Louisiana at _______", whats the difference? LOL
Hen...my northshore list would also include Del Porto in Covington...the owners are nominated for a James Beard award...they deserve a shot.

Best on the Northshore and the best Italian in the entire area IMO.

OTIS 2 is a Monroe guy that I know is very aware of the Monroe/North Louisiana culinary scene.
ETA: it may cut into his "billable hours" though

Exactly - that defeats the purpose of having specific people covering particular areas of the state.
TulaneLSU may need to rethink this a little bit...
