Probably would like to do a light lunch and a memorable dinner. What are some of the top / can't miss places in SF. Won't be there until the 27th so I have some time to make a reservation.
Places that make good cocktails get extra consideration. Thx

I'm sure some west coast folks can add more/better spots, but from my trips out there...
SPQR - Renowned chef, Michelin star, etc.
Slanted Door - Food is pretty good, but the view/environment make it
Californios - Really different take on Mexican food. Tasting menu was great
State Bird - Tapas style with American-ish food.
The Progress - Same people and similar fare as State Bird, but large plates
Yank Sing - Dim Sum
Z&Y - Good, spicy Chinese food
I usually stay in SOMA, so City Beer and Southside Spirits are my go to's for drinks.

You might as well throw Houston in there since it comes up on an almost weekly basis.
They should create a thread for each commonly referenced city and sticky them for a week or two to build content, then unsticky them and create a master thread that's stickied with links to each city's thread inside of it....similar to what they've done with the recipe thread on this board and the previously discussed topics thread on the Money Board.

State bird provisions is my favorite.
Bar crudo is down the street and has a fabulous happy hour. You could do both in one night. Just make sure to be in line about 15 minutes before they open.
We really enjoyed slanted door as well.

Sorry, not every thread can be a "best burger in BR" thread. Get out much? San fran and NYC are culinary capitals of the US so kinda makes sense.

Never started a thread like that, and yes I've been to both cities many times, I've responded to threads asking the same question many times referring people to my favorite spots in both cities.
I was simply implying there are a ton of these threads and we should have something people can view to keep up with all the recommendations instead of having it brought up again over and over.
Continue on with your simple insults though if it makes you feel like a big cultured man.

I had about 6 hours in San Fran 3 months ago. I went and stood at the bar at Zuni Cafe, sipped rose and martinis, ate french fries and raw oysters. After about 2 hours of that strenuous exercise, walked down to Mission St. Chinese and had a fantastic and delicious meal with lots of luke warm to sort of cold Asian beer. One of the best 6 hours Ive spent culinarily speakin .

Wayfare Tavern– Some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. It is actually a pretty fancy joint.
Chubby Noodle– Great brunch. They time you. You have 1 hour to eat as much as you want and to drink as much as you want.

I had a pretty great time in San Francisco this weekend. Partied in the mission, stayed up all night with a cutie and then had breakfast in Chinatown with my brother. Afterwards we sat in a park watching Asian women do funny pseudo-dance moves for exercise, and then I got swung at by an angry homeless man.

Slanted door for dinner. My favorite in the city. Inside the ferry building along the bay. Waiters are great recommending what's good that night. We never really ordered he just brought the food out
