Meaning the core team I've workerd to put together all year was better than the team you put together.

Our teams are pretty close, your team was on fire that week. I would be beating you pretty bad this week despite having 1 more game than you so far.

You and I both knew the rules going in. I've set up my team to be able to compete in pretty much every category and to have a spot or two open if i need it each week. It's one thing if you disagree with the rules set in place, but you can't make any excuses either. There is more to this league than the draft. I've said several times that you have a stud team, but you could have done more to make the playoffs IMO.

Trading of picks is the only way for shitty teams to get better

you want to cut out trading in a keeper league?

cut out trading of picks…if you don't draft well, or don't "build a core", you are forced to trade a stud for depth.

I'd say 90% of the trades in this league involve a pick for a player. 10% actual involve strategy and what benefits both teams.

and I'm not just throwing this out there b/c I didn't trade any picks this year.

It would make the league more competitive. Less teams would sell out, b/c it'd greatly reduce the benefit of unloading every single valuable piece you have.

It'd also eliminate all these gimme 7-1 and 8-0s after 1/2 the league has sold out.

Im fine with eliminating trading of draft picks.

you are going to see a lot of last place teams lose interest quick if you do this.

i do think we can come up with some sort of limit on pick trading if we wanted to, but i think it's good for the league. we could have 3 teams making the playoffs that didn't last year, and two of them have a strong shot at finishing 1-2. I don't think it's much of an issue.

trading your picks away effects your strategy for the next season. I had to deal monta ellis and david lee away in the offseason for pennies on the dollar just to get some sort of draft picks this season. Which meant I needed to make smarter picks and then make smarter moves to compete this year. In theory whoever traded for my picks had a strategy of building through the draft.

What it all boils down to in my opinion is I like the thought of the team who puts together the best complete roster wins. Not the team who puts 8/10th of a roster together and accumulates stats with vince carter and tracy mcgrady to win.

I think that's b/c the competitive balance swings so much year to year b/c of the trading of picks.

It almost benefits you to go all in one year, and sell-out the following year.

And the teams that compete every year, draft picks don't really matter to them, b/c they can have a shitty draft and trade the following years picks for better players anyway and compete.

I've gone "all in" several times and never sold out the following year because i've done sone with a clear strategy. On the other hand take a look at rmcc's team in tdbl and see what going all in with no strategy for the following year will do for you. You end up with Gary Sheffield and 11 closers

Yeah. I see where my man Touls is coming from, but I like the idea of being able to trade / trade for picks. If we could find a reasonable compromise, like some sort of limit or maybe requirements on what pick you get back depending on what you give, it might work.

The only thing I see working and not being too complicated is games per week limit. We can vote on that before next season.

That's cool I guess. But I was talking about placing. Not competing.
