For folks playing dynasty leagues, how do you have your top 20ish prospects ranked? Or even top 5. Whatever you want to spend time putting together.

We always do our rookie draft the week after the nfl draft, so it ensures some wild ranking variation between players since no one gets the benefits of camps/relentless preseason press coverage to get a feel for which rookies will pop. Going to be putting together my rankings tonight after work and would love any input from folks with a similar early rookie draft.

Thanks!!!

I could see it if Javonte had a great landing spot, but with him landing in Denver I definitely would go Pitts.

My initial top 40. Y’all tear it apart please!

(Note: it’s a 12 team league with 2 flex positions, so RBs are at a premium. And I’m a bit RB poor, so I definitely overvalued backs relative to other lists. Also pretty well set on QBs, so they may be ranked lower than otherwise warranted)

Chase
Etienne

DeVonta
Javonte

In 1 QB or SF?

It’s a reach, IMO. But if you like him, get your guy

I'm in a PPR:

Chase
Harris
Pitts
Smith
Sermon
Etienne
Gainwell
Marshall
Waddle
Williams

Some rationale, because I know my list looks different:

1. Chase is the best WR in the draft, and he went to reunite with his old college QB who he was ungodly productive with. I expect him to have a much longer and more productive career than Harris, and I expect Cincinnati to have a very good offense for the next several years. Harris is a great back, but Pittsburgh's OL is a mess right now and I don't really expect them to transition smoothly from Ben to their next QB. He is going to be a very talented back in a shitty situation, IMO.

2. Waddle is low because I'm in a PPR. I believe he will be a better player on the field than in PPR leagues. He is going to stretch the field and will hit several home runs, but I don't expect him to really be among the league leaders in receptions. Smith and Marshall are higher because I expect them both to routinely receive double digit targets per game.

3. I have always been lower than most on Etienne, and he went to a team who has a second year back coming off of a 1000 yard season. He will be in a timeshare, and if he starts fumbling again, Urban will get frustrated and put him in the doghouse. Etienne should be very productive in a PPR though. Sermon went to an amazing situation, where he will probably be the lead back for the most creative running game in the league. He has a chance to be amazing right away and I believe he could score double digit touchdowns as a rookie.

I think you’re severely underrating Waddles route skills. He had a pretty incredible route tree in college. He isn’t Henry Ruggs

Smith ahead of Waddle, sure. Marshall ahead of Waddle, I don't agree, but I get it.

Kenny Gainwell ahead of Waddle?? I need that one explained.

PPR. I think Gainwell is going to catch a ton of checkdowns from Hurts. I also think they'll scheme plays specifically to get him the ball (screens, swings, line up in slot, etc). I admit this is a bit of a reach but I've been high on Gainwell for awhile. I could easily see him routinely putting up numbers like Antonio Gibson did last year when Alex Smith was the QB.

Do you think Miles Sanders is just a non-factor or something? Or just think Gainwell is good enough to beat him out straight up? I think Gainwell is competing with Boston Scott for that role, not Sanders. I get making Gainwell a priority in the 2nd round, but man, I can't get on board with a 5th rounder over a top 6 pick. The difference in hit rate and amount of opportunities the respective teams will give them is HUGE.

As far as the checkdowns from Hurts, I think that's an interesting hypothesis. On one hand, dynamic running QBs often check down less because a QB scramble will pick up more yards than a checkdown (Lamar is a prime example of this). But one of the main knocks on Hurts coming out, and I didn't see much that disproved this during his 3 full games, is that Hurts wants to see guys open before he throws. We know that doesn't happen all that frequently in the NFL, so that could lead to him holding the ball and funneling it short once pressure arrives. In his 3 full games, he had the following results targeting RBs:

Cowboys- 6 RB targets on 34 targeted pass attempts
Cards- 3 RB targets on 40 targeted pass attempts
Saints- 6 RB targets on 26 targeted pass attempts

I have the leaguewide target rate for running backs as about 15% of targets, so he actually targeted running backs right in line with the leaguewide average. We'll see how that holds moving in 2021 over a full season.
