Question about trading draft picks. If we trade a draft pick do we completely lose that pick or just that slot?

The entire pick. If you want to swap slots, be sure to get the other persons pick in return.

You could flip with someone or forfeit your pick in general. That is up to you and the owner you are negotiating with.
