I watched CNN for the 1st time in 10 years last night. To watch the melt.

It probably won't ever be on my TV again.

We now have the technology to count each vote. Why not do so?

ETA: ... in a timely fashion

it's literally like you idiots have never had a civics class or read what the founders actually wrote or said.

it's mind boggling you think you're intelligent.

This is the very reason the Electoral COllege was put in place.

Rural states feared that the populated states. That is why we choose a federal system over a unitarian system.

The electoral college allows states like Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada to actually matter. The founders understood that rural states needed to be protected.

Not arguing constitutionality in any way-shape-or-form... simply saying I would prefer a granular, majority rule. Thought that was pretty self-evident.

I would rather a modified EV system. Each congressional district gets a vote, If the PV in a state is more than 55% one way, they get both extra votes, if not the 2 EVs split.

Without the electoral college, candidates would cater to only the most populous states.

Exactly the reason it was setup in the first place. Without it, you have candidates hanging out in NY and L.A. and ignoring the rest of the country. Do you live in Nebraska and have nothing in common whatsoever with people in NYC or L.A. or Chicago? Too fricking bad. You're going to take our policies we cram down your throat and like them you little peon living in flyover country, you.

That's what you get without the electoral college. It was true in the 1780's and it's still true today. It was one of the genius insights of the founders that has stood the test of time.

Of course, the founders also believed in much stronger states rights than we have now, which also would have prevented one region from dominating another with their ideas and policies. Of course, states rates were pretty much abolished after the Civil War (for good reason, but it had unintended consequences).

Like Trump wouldn't have run a completely different campaign and secured the popular vote.

If Democrats are serious, they should push proportional electoral votes in the states they won. That would get them closer to their desired result.

Right now because it's 'burned' democrats for the second time.

Tell them, in exchange of these tough loses, we will let go of California and allow it be it's own country and economy. We will offer limited military support from board states.

Under this arrangement, the 55 electoral votes are void.

Hillary won 1/3 of the states and yet won the popular vote, that's fundamentally why we have a electoral college.

That is not a fair representation of the discussion.

They talked about the EC and explained the Founders' reasons and stated clearly what it would take to remove it, etc.

They did not "call for it" did not 'lament it'. They discussed it and ended the discussion that it will NOT be changed so it will be in effect in " 4 years, 8 years, and far far into the future"

JEEBUS.

CNN has plenty to be criticized for. This discussion was not one of them
