Meaning there may be a team with a better offensive line than we have but their defensive line isn’t as good as our or vice versa but no team has a better offensive AND defensive line than us. Not even Georgia.

I want to believe but that’s high cotton.

If Maason Smith is back and fully recovered, it could happen.

2016- KJ Malone first really bad LT

Who is also Karl Malone's who played center all through high school and had to put on 40 to play tackle for Les. With that being said, if Karl Malone's son says he wants to play football at LSU, he's playing football at LSU or at minimum on the team. It's not a slight on Les for a poor eval, it's just politics.

Even Kelly would have struggled to fix the mess of a roster he was left with, if not for the portal.

If not for the portal it would have taken 3 recruiting classes to be remotely competitive given the shitshow Kelly walked in to here

It always amazed me how Saban managed to somehow pluck a kid from Louisiana we really needed just about every year.

Even then, we were usually able to replace them with an equal or better talent. Only guy that really sticks out is that one from north Louisiana that started at left tackle for Bama as a freshman - the one that got arrested with weed and a stolen gun and got no charges.

I agree with you up to this point. No team has recruited as well as UGA has across the lines the last 2-3 years. I think we are pulling even or close to it with Bama, though. That alone is a huge development.

Idk how people keep saying this. We had an insane run of good OTs.

The problem wasn’t that we had no talent at OT. The problem was little to no depth and some issues transitioning from one set of guys to the next.

Losing Cam Robinson to Bama and Van Pran to Georgia hurt bad. Probably the two biggest in state losses since I’ve been following recruiting.

When’s the last time we had a coach recruit with tactic like this? We have a hole in a position, boom it’s plugged with a good transfer

I mean, they just changed the transfer rule last year. He's the only coach we've had under the new rules that allow instant eligibility transfers

Yea, not sure that’s accurate. The transfer portal was around in Os time and we got a few. Difference now is NIL and the 25 man cap

And it’s being noticed around the SEC by sports ?? analyst and reporters. Kelly knows what the hell to do at every turn. I bet it pissed him off to see us loose that 5 star player to Saban on signing day. Saban also stole an Iowa commit 5 star away on signing day, not with money, per the kid who had a NIL deal in Iowa. He was 6’7” 270lb lineman. Iowa is really pissed ??

My complaint about Les was that he allowed the defensive line to get zero depth. Same with the linebackers to an extent. We had good offensive lines under Les as it related to run blocking. But he had a lot of flaws at recruiting positions of need year in and year out.

Yeah I remember the year when Lacouture and Godchaux had to play like 90% of the snaps at DT

Not just that year. But in 2013 Ego Ferguson and Anthony Johnson had to play 90+% of the snaps cause we had zero depth. We never got the defensive line depth back until 2019 and even 2019 wasn't an elite defensive line but we had 6 guys we rotated through the 3 spots.

From 2005 to present, we’ve had 5 OT drafted into the NFL. Kelly’s tenure at ND had 6 drafted in a shorter span. Kelly was 2010-2021 timeframe at ND. Kelly does a better job at Talent Evaluation and Player Development. Another position to look at with Kelly, TE, he wants to do this with LSU. Kelly and Staff know where LSU has to have their roster, he’s getting close with it.

I agree it’s not only highly rated classes, CBK and Staff are feeling holes with great evaluations. E Jones was ranked as the 8th best IOL and Started as an OT in the freaking SEC. They know what they want and develop them. CBK said Taylor was one of the best freshmen TEs comparing him to Bowers, I thought he’s talking him up but Taylor was better than any freshman TE we’ve had. O would talk players up and we never saw them.
Less would have good or highly ranked classes but never fill the needs. I remember one class had 6 Safeties albeit 4 ranked in the top 14 but most just rotted on the bench.
CBK is probably the Smartest Coach I’ve seen at LSU including Saban. I’m not saying he’s a better Coach overall but it’s closer than people think. Once he gets us there and keeps getting these recruits we will be Elite again. And then there’s Kirby also who’s establishing Georgia as the next dynasty. We will get there.

Certainly Coach Kelly knows what he's doing. Hopefully, he can conclude the process by signing a few more linebackers and perhaps another defensive lineman.
