I’ve been doing Greyskull for a few weeks and I was doing an AMRAP set of squats on Monday and on the last rep I got a splitting headache at the lower back half of my skull - it lasted about five minutes and went away. Never had this happen before so I chalked it up as a one off. It happened again this morning doing my AMRAP set of overhead press. I finished the workout but using low weights for my other exercises.

Anyone else have this happen and have a suggested treatment? I’ll probably take the rest of the week off.

Sounds like exertion already headaches.

quote:

Exertional headaches are a group of headache syndromes, which are associated with some physical activity. These headaches typically become severe very quickly after a strenuous activity such as weight lifting or sexual intercourse.

So that sounds fun.

I don’t know anything about treatment though.

I got these for a while. Pretty debilitating. Rapid onset, sharp, severe pain localized to a small area.

For me, it ended up being associated with a particular pre-workout I was using. Stopped using that brand and it went away.

its an excertion head ache. trying laying off stimulants before lifting and see if that helps. If not, leave a rep or two in reserve.

I don’t know your age or medical history but don’t rule out high blood pressure and the consequences of that

Vaccine causes microclots for some. Idk if that would have anything to do with this, but if you got vaccinated they said to wait for 6 months before real exercise. If you were vaccinated just be aware.

First I've heard of that. Is this really a thing?

If that's true the lady that gave me mine had no idea. I asked her if I was ok to do my run that afternoon and she said go for it.

Sounds like bullshite. If this was happening someone somewhere would’ve reported it by now.

Like others have said, exertion headache. I get them for a week or so after I go on a 5+ hour flight. Best treatment is drinking shitloads of water in my experience.

Thanks - I don’t take a pre-workout supplement. Think I’ll take a week off and drink lots of water.

Got them from both sources about twenty years apart. The phenomenon in both cases lasted about a week. Lifting in late teens; headache lasted a few minutes each time. Hibbity-dibbity 20 yrs later - I remember being much more intense/severe. Could be that I was 20 yrs older. Also happened shortly after an extended bachelor party in NO that included me not treating my body very well; at all. Could’ve been lingering effects from that.

Probably wouldn’t hurt to see your physician and check your vitals. Make sure your blood pressure and heart checks out.
