Bay St Louis marsh fishing

Well with the amount of rain we have had recently it is a no brainer at this point. Salinity is down but the wind has been mild.

Went wade fishing in Waveland this past weekend. Stayed out there from sun up to noon.

Not a bite.

Water in the Bay all summer has basically been chocolate milk with almost no salinity. I don't think it's ever going to stop raining. The wolf has been flowing hard for months.

My buddy fished Monday to Thursday this week in that area. None of the trips were great. The best he did was Wednesday with me at Cat island. We probably caught 70 trout but only 3 keepers but all were over 20 inches the biggest about 31/2 pounds. All big males. We were catching 10-12 inch trout on every cast multiple times at smugglers but dolphins were all over us most of the day. Live shrimp are gone as soon as they hit the water but you better being a cast net or some with u as damn near impossible to find at bait shops. All the keepers were on live croakers.

Water was ok. Louisiana marsh reports were bad. Good reports on the lagoon on south side of ship too.

Also some good trout caught off the beach by lighthouse in Biloxi.

Rain and water temperature have screwed up everything, but had some buddies almost limit out on 18-20 inch specks at smugglers cove on Sunday in two hours throwing mirrorlures etc. If you can get to island at dawn u can always catch a few on top water. If you have a few days keep hitting that area with live shrimp croakers and plugs and you might hit them

What kind is of sea conditions can you expect on bay St. Louis and from there to ship island. Looking to buy a waterfront lot there soon and debating if a pontoon would be sufficient. I know crossing to the island would have to be on a blue bird day with minimal wind but just curious about the area in general.

It would be a long run in a pontoon boat. If weather pops up as it often does in the summer then you'd be stuck in a tight spot with a slow moving boat and a long run from the dock. Pontoon is fine for cruising around the Bay and heading up the Jordan or Wolf Rivers.

If you want to spend the day on a sandbar up the river then Pontoon is perfect

If you want to spend the day out at one of the barrier islands then I'd recommend what Redneck said. Deeper V hull. Boats are coming with more seating included these days.

While I advise against a pontoon boat you don't need a big ol' hard to handle offshore boat for the islands. 20ft is fine. Hell growing up we would go to Cat Island on a 16ft Whaler.
