I used the box for my son's new 410 to start a fire last week.

Do a search on eBay for Colt Gun Box. They range from $20 - $2400!!!!

I wish we had an Academy here. They have really taken care of me over the years. They couldn't put things back for me, but I knew them well enough they would give me a call if something I needed came in. Now I am stuck with standing there waiting on service while the employees tell stories to each other (after having waited till 10am for the store to open).

I'm not familiar with that concept.

I’ve picked up older S&W and Ruger revolvers over time, and I’ve purchased the old blue S&W boxes and yellow and red Ruger boxes off of eBay. If I can find an original manual I’ll get that too. Of course some of the boxes for S&W revolvers are often $100+, which is too much for me. The S&W boxes typically have a handwritten serial # on the outside which won’t match your pistol. But I do like having the/a box, more from a nostalgia/hobby standpoint than anything.
When I have sold or traded guns I find it to be a good thing to have the original box, papers, accessories. Many people will ask if it’s included. In fact the inclusion of the box, etc. is often a selling point in the ads I see.
I’d definitely keep the box for higher-end revolvers and 1911s, maybe others, if you don’t have a storage issue. Bottom line is that it never hurts to keep it.

I throw everything away including those stupid locks that nobody uses.
The only thing I've really kept from my guns besides the manuals has been the zip tie from my M1A that says it's illegal in California

I really have a tough time throwing them out unless they come in something really cheap.
I think Ruger uses cardboard so I don’t keep that
Glock and Springfield have nice boxes so I keep those.
I recall keeping a Benelli shotgun box but most shotgun boxes I don’t

I've never sold a gun and don't think I ever would. The box goes in the trash.
That's my mindset, too. It'd be like selling a kid.
All of my guns have been modified, anyway, so any resale value with the "perfect in the box" crowd is out the window already.
