Do you guys keep the boxes your new guns come in?
Obviously, if it comes in a plastic case, you're gonna want to keep that, but what about the carboard cases? Had a guy at Academy tell me it keeps the resale price high to keep it if I ever wanted to sell it down the road.

My wife’s grandfather collected and had over 500 guns and almost all are still in the box. Her father has them now and 30 years ago had about a hundred stolen.

Most are just whatever came out rifles, shotguns mostly and really nothing special about them except they are all 50 plus years old, have the boxes and have never been shot. He really needs to sell them but he won’t. She probably will have to once he’s gone.

Some people just like having everything as it comes from the factory.

Handguns yes. I have everyone I've ever bought. Until that incident in Toledo Bend where I lost everything.

I had all mine up until I moved in December. I had a pile out by the street that probably made a few people think I had a problem

If you scroll the gun sites you will see a higher price 50-250$ more for a gun listed with box paperwork and all accessories never shot.
But that’s a long shot on a gun being sold many years from now hoping it’s a high demand gun or a gun that someone just had to have.

YES- every gun I own has the original box and receipt.

In fact, when I built my house, I had them make a loft over my gun safe nook just to store them in.

My great grandkids are going to have a helluva auction.

I've never sold a gun and don't think I ever would. The box goes in the trash.

Would the box matter if the gun has been shot tons of times and beat to shit?

I understand the extra value of New In Box, but I have never heard of people caring about "Used in Box" except high end watches.

To me, the box doesn't matter if the guns been shot unless its something collectable.

Hell in 5 years anything related to a gun might be valuable

Those are good for a quick bike lock, but not much else. I think I have a couple somewhere. Probably in the plastic box that is stored in the basement.

Was perusing an online gun auction and saw a nice older Colt pistol box in the first photo. Price was $500. I thought "I don't even need to see the pistol, I will take whatever it is for $500". I was shocked to find out that was for JUST THE BOX. People actually collect old gun boxes although I can't imagine why.

re: Do you guys keep the boxes your new guns come in?
When my Dad died when I was 14 and my Mom sold most of my Dad's guns - - the gun shop owner who came to purchase asked when we were finishing up if I had any of the original boxes that came with any of the guns. I opened up the attic door and we went up there where my dad had stored every box for every gun he had (that he purchased new or a box was included when he bought it from someone else). He gave an additional $50-$100 for each box I had.

Some buyers want EVERYTHING that comes with guns when they buy them. Especially classic stuff. The more original boxing, paperwork, inserts, pieces that you have when selling a gun, the more valuable it is.
