Looking at possible traveling to Europe, they require a negative test within 72 hours prior to boarding/arriving.

Any where in Baton Rouge area to get this done?

I know CVS up here does them pretty easily.

I got one about 2 weeks ago from Lake After Hours on Perkins near Siegen. You'll have to do a virtual appointment first. but I went from calling them at 2pm on a Friday to having results by 6 pm. I was directly exposed to someone so I'm not sure if they would give you the test if you told them it's for travel. I would just tell them you had direct exposure and you are planning to travel so you need to know very quickly.

You sure that was PCR? PCR takes 2-3 days for lab analysis usually.

Yeah, 4 hour results is almost certainly an antigen test which is useless for travel.

In 2 weeks I head for Kenya and need a 96 hour result - ie 3 days before boarding. I may have gone a little overboard but there is a lot on the line. I've got 3 home test kits coming - Picture, Pixel, and Vault. And I'll do a couple of tests locally, probably CVS in 2 different cities - they seem to have their act together for getting the results in 2-3 days.

Friends of mine went up to Alaska a few weeks ago and never got their PCR test result. So they had to take one in Fairbanks and lost around 5 days.

This is a pretty good article on the current state of test at home kits:

I know they do have a couple rapid PCR tests out there but they are rare. Might have gotten one though.

Pretty common now at many hospitals. Hospital I work for has one in our in house lab that gives results in 45 minutes.

Those rapid tests at hospitals won’t work for international travel. Can’t just do a nose swab. Needs to be sent to a lab and you have to have a certificate that says you took a RT-PCR test to board your flight.

Best I’ve seen is like 8-24hrs but usually have to pay

How positive are you about this because it doesn't sound right? I'm not sure the people at the airport are capable of telling the difference?

PCR tests usually take 48-96 hours to get back right? Doesn't seem reasonable for someone to plan this with that short of a window to not make the timeline.

Each country has its own guidelines but most want an actual RT-PCR test that is read in a lab.

There are ways to get results back within 24hrs in certain cases. Usually gota drop some money though.

Agreed timelines are tight.
Hypothetically, Lets say someone swabbed for PCR today via CVS/Lab Corp for a trip to St Lucia this Sunday @6am. and if Lab Corp PCR doesn’t come back in time, let’s say this person created their own negative test result (that’s identical to an actual LabCorp negative result).
Is there anyway the destination country could actually verify the test result I produce is valid?

There is a place in Covington (ArcPoint). Got me results in 48 hours. It's a little pricey but I needed it for the same reason, so worth it to me.

They are not the most qualified people. I simply uploaded the email confirmation that I scheduled the test and it worked. We needed to upload something to get the “approval to board” clearance to go to Aruba. I never swapped it out with the actual negative test and we walked through the checkpoint no problem.

There is a kids urgent care place we've gone in Vestavia, and it is the PCR nasal swab.

Both rounds of tests we've done in the past week, we got results the next day. It was a little more than 24 hours both times, but they told us 24-72 hours was the window. I think if you go later in the day you can't expect results the following day. And this place is open until 10PM, I think. Tested around 3PM last Friday, and got called with results around 8PM Saturday night. Daughter was positive, I was negative. Waited until Tuesday to test my wife and boys, and since I took them all I got tested again. That was around 4 on Tuesday, and they called at 5 on Wednesday. Everyone still negative. May end up taking my daughter to get retested to see if she is negative now, and we might be able to get her back in school quickly and our youngest back to daycare.

I just got three PCR test results in - all taken on Tuesday. The first at a CVS Minute Clinic in Tallahassee, a little over 48 hours for them. It's done at their drive through - you stick the swab up your own nose in (a good ways in) while they watch. The second from Vault (home test kit), it is a spit test and they have someone give you instructions and watch via Zoom. It went out via Fedex on Tuesday, they got it yesterday, results today. The third is a home test kit by Pixel (Labcorp). Do yourself nasal swab (not deep), nobody watches you, shipped Tuesday, they got it Wednesday, results today. So roughly 48 hour turnaround on all 3. I was not going to gamble with only one or two tests.

It's a relief to have the results - I'm catching flights to Amsterdam and then on to Nairobi tomorrow. Kenya has a 96 hour window.
