Hi OB, I’m in the market for an atv and looking for the unicorn - all stock, gently used, low hours.... I’ve been watching a few Honda ranchers and foreman on FB marketplace to see what may be available near me. There is also a 2014 Grizzly 450 with low hours and miles. From what I have read, this bike is not fuel injected but it looks like it has overall good reviews and high reliability.
My question for the OB - any Overall comments or experience with the Grizzly 450 compared to the Honda’s? Any experience with non fuel injected machines? I’ve always had carbureted ATVs but was planning to move to EFI...
TIA

I’ve been around a few, they’re not bad machines. Personally, I’d stick with an EFI model though.

I've got an old 350 wolverine 4wd, that's a great machine, nearly 30 years old(maybe older, I'm not sure what year it was made). I wish it had the locking front differential like the grizzly had. Carbs are easy to fix, or cheap to replace.

I don’t have experience with the exact act you’re asking about. But I have 2 Yamahas from around 2000 and they are both really good machines. As good as Honda IMO.

I know a guy who has a 2014 Yamaha Grizzly 550 with less than 100 hrs of use. That’s crazy! Let me know if you’re interested and I will put you in touch with him.

FIL has a 2003 Yamaha big bear 400 2wd and has never had a single issue. Nothing fancy but it starts right up every time.

I have an 07 Yamaha Big Bear and it is very reliable and pulls well.

Since it has a carburetor it is much easier to work on than a fuel injected model.

In my personal opinion unless your using it for light work, anything electronic on a 4 wheeler is bad is you’re ever going to be in a situation with mud and water.

I prefer carbureted over EFI even it means harder cold starts. Last Yamaha I owned was 2003 grizzly 660 when they first came out, I was a young teen. I put that thing through absolute hell each and every day for years on trails I made around a muddle bayou behind our house. Very little problem out of it, tough bike. Loved that thing

I also have a an older Wolverine 350 4x4. It’s a 2001 model and have had zero trouble with it.

Tell me about your 350. Size wise, small enough for a 70lb 11yr old to handle?

Have a chance to buy a 2010 model from a local here. He’s almost too small for my rancher IMO

My kids ride them everyday around the house. I have 3...15,10,9. They have no problems riding the 350 or the rancher.
I’d be careful at first as it will get up and go. It’s not a wide bike and has that “sport” look to
It with the way the from fenders are. It’s also 4wd all the time so it will tear up the yard. Mine is completely original including the tires.

Good to know. Is it that much smaller than the rancher? I have ‘18 rancher and watching him ride it by himself just makes me nervous. I find him standing up more than sitting to even maneuver it.

It doesn’t seem as wide. I will take a picture of them side by side fit comparison.

You are welcome. All I’ve done to my Wolverine is change the carb, oil, and battery a few times . It’s almost 20 years old.
