There are cases where children are born with multiple sex organs and or other physical abnormalities and surgical decisions are made early that are mistakes. There may also be cases like you suggest that the body and the brain really dont match. So I do think that true cases of essentially being born in the wrong body probably do exist.
But there are also cases of true mental illness or extreme fetishism where the individual remains attracted to the opposite sex but has an overwhelming desire to engage sexually as another gender. Fetishes are fine but they start to cross the line when it involves radical surgeries. These are the people that often commit suicide after sex reassignment surgery and need to psychological help

I have nothing against parents supporting LGBTQ children if and when during the childs development they come out as gay or lesbian. Transgendered is a bit more problematic because there are aspects of the condition that could be considered mental illness and I worry that some of these kids need a lot of psychological counseling to ensure that they are making the right choices before under going procedures to alter their sex especially those that are autistic, which studies are showing are linked in many cases to being trans gendered.

All that being said it is absolutely ridiculous that these parents would FROM BIRTH consider this child gender neutral and feel its wrong to use your birth sex to determine gender. To even be discussing gender re-assignment before he is an adult and understands the full consequences of a decision like that is imo child abuse..
