I got the Epic pass so mainly Breck and Keystone. I’ll burn most of my Vail days around Mardi Gras. I want to make it to Crested Butte but some things will have to align to justify the drive. I hope to get 40 days. If anyone is local give me a shout if you want to carpool. Maybe we can start an OTL “On the Lift” thread like the OB has an “In the Stand”.

I need so much stuff as I haven’t skied in a few years. I went to Evo for the first time the other day. That place is awesome but dangerous for the wallet as it’s all high end. I’ve always rented skis and boots. Even “super demo” $50+ day rental packages have $200 boots which never fit right. Hopefully a good boot fitment will resolve that issue without breaking the bank. I’m trying to stay under $1200 for skis, binding, boots, and poles. I was able to get my kids season long rentals for $110 at Christie’s.

Now is the time to buy!

Skis are pretty inexpensive right now. You can pick up last year's Nordica Enforcer 100s for under $500, slap on some Attack 13's, and still have about $500 for some boots/poles. Just remember, marry your boots, date your skis.

I added these two to the quiver this year:

You can do season long rentals for yourself at Epic, Christie’s or Larsons.

I don’t know if anyone local to Denver area with kids that gets close to 40 days. We consider double digit days a decent year. 40 days is single man numbers.

Yeah, I thought about renting skis. I’m certainly buying boots. Skis would have a 2-3 season payback.

I have a lot of PTO and work from anywhere. My kids start early on Fridays so my plan is to drop them off and head up. I know 40 is ambitious, but it’s a target to shoot for. I’ll be sure to eat crow in May if I’m way off.

How is talking 285 up to breck during the winter?

I got about 20 last year and that’s with a girlfriend that lived in Winter Park. The commute from Denver to the mountain is just too annoying on the weekends to go both days.

PJAB- i would be down for carpool. What part of Denver are you in? I am at Platte &19th. am a weekend warrior though.

Y’all got me worried now. I started looking some cheap Airbnbs to be able to ski multiple days in a weekend.

I’m by Wash Park. Play hooky on some Fridays so we can get those numbers up!

That’s the way to go. Get a cheap place & split it with folks. You’re never there anyway. Just a place to sleep.

Wash Park is cool. I lived off Bayaud & Downing when I first moved here.

Suggestion on ski rental place in Steamboat? I’m leaning towards Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare based on proximity to hotel and price (main factor). They get good reviews, but wanted to see if any of you had any experience with them.

Only one I’ve used in Steamboat in the past was Christys. It’s right by city market so we’d get groceries then skis.

Gonna give it a few more weeks before I go probably. 500-700 people on 1 run does not sound fun.

A Basin is opening this afternoon for 2 hours. Then open for good starting tomorrow.

A-Basin with the 11th hour one up. Good for them.
It isn’t much fun till the mountains fully open, IMO.

Keystone has 3 runs open right now. A Bay has 1. Loveland will probably open this weekend with a few runs.

Got my bindings mounted on my new sticks for the season. They are expecting some decent snow to fall on Sunday. May go take some laps.

Prayers sent.

Went last year, worst run resort I've ever been to.

If I could give you any advice that could make your trip better than mine, stay on the California side. DO NOT STAY NEAR THE GONDOLA. Seems like a great idea at first, but they shut it down with a stiff breeze. Which means hundreds of people have to scramble to get on busses to go to Cali. We waited for over and hour and gave up one day after barely moving. Probably would have been another 2. Lost a whole day for that.
