I just moved into a new place. About to order internet. I already have a modem/router and coax cable. Is there really some use for their pointless self install kit? Or once I order, does internet start coming through the wall immediately? Trying to get this going before the LSU game this weekend.

Good first step.

Consult a doctor. You may have had a stroke.

This is complicated. The house may be connected. The house may not be connected. To get internet, they have to take down some numbers off your modem and 'allow' it onto their network. So if things are all plugged up (outside, in the attic), it's as easy as calling them and plugging in your modem to register it.
There's a distinct possibility that they have unhooked their cables which would mean they need to send someone out to connect this before you can connect your modem.

Give them a call, have your modem ready. If you're hooked up, they'll have you on in a few minutes.

I would imagine it depends on the provider. I have suddenlink and they still had to send a tech out. He had to call and give the numbers off of my modem and connect the cable coming to my house.

Haha rephrased without reading through a second time. Edited now. And great, I actually use to have internet with them about two years ago so this router should be compatible. Appreciate the help.

I did self install with Comcast Xfinity. The packet had nothing in it other than some Ethernet cables. I just had to plug my computer straight into the router and go to their website. Happened within a day of ordering

The thicker the cable, the quicker the data can flow through the cable to get to you.

What is there to install? Just plug some cables in.

I've read this title a few times the day or ao and it never dawned on me the OP meant "when will my internet start working". I just thought he didn't know you can already get internet through coax cable providers.

data doesn't come through cable; it rides on the outer surface.
