Prices? Harvest? I’m sick of these lizards chasing my popping cork when I’m not catching fish. Hope you guys thinned em our around Mechant.

Probably pretty slow. Prices are way down.

I can't speak to how the season is going but I saw a ton of baws going after gators this weekend in the basin.

What is the price per pound? Does the price go up if it is an exceptionally large gator or is the price per pound the same no matter the length?

They need to go open season on them in Maurepas Swamp. There are 5-6 in eyesight on every bank of blind river

I didn’t see the same number of gators on
My commute over the ABB as I did last year. Thought maybe they got thinned out.

They are sold by length.

They are sold by length. The longer the gator the higher price per foot. The meat is probably worth more than the hide right now.

The lottery hunts in Maurepas started on the 2nd. I think they gave out a total of 60 tags, three per lottery winner. I've tagged one at 8' 7" and one at 6' 1" so far.
According to one of the biologists at LDWF, prices are $7-8 a foot.

We need Troy or RJ in this thread.

there is Zero money in it. Some people are not even messing with it. Its not easy work to tag 50+ gators to break even. Some are even selling trips to help make a little extra money. Farms killed all of it. They will need to eventually create an open hunting season to control the population

The only thing I can contribute is that I was given the meat from a 7 footer and my god it's so good blackened and dipped in remoulade

Around $8/foot (for gators over 8 feet). The meat is retailing around $8/lb. There is no money in harvesting wild alligators. As stated above, the farm industry has taken it over. And yes, it is hard and smelly work running lines.

Plenty of gators around, but like others have said, the price is horrible.
