Underworld - Don Delillo, For the second time without pausing after the first read. First time I've ever done this. Partly because it's on Audiobook and I missed bits of it while traveling. It's pretty complicated and the timeline jumps all over the place. But mostly because the writing really is just that good. And a lot of the early book makes more sense after the first read.

The funny thing is that while I read it the first time I kept thinking of sections of Infinite Jest that were inspired by Underworld and where DFW was paying homage to DeLillo. The weird thing is that Infinite Jest came out shortly before Underworld, so I was wrong about that. The similarities are uncanny in many areas, though Underworld is a much easier read.

How is Delillo? I’ve had his novel Libra sitting on my shelf for a while but have never read any of his stuff.

I've only read Underworld but in that one he's (DeLillo) among the very best when it comes to the use of language. And his characters all feel very real. Very dry sense of humor too. Not an easy read but much more accessible than David Foster Wallace or much of Cormac McCarty or Thomas Pynchon. But he deserves to be lumped in with them.

Got about 75 pages left in "The Way of Kings"

It's entertaining but I'm not sure if I'm going to pick up book two. I am not into this world as much as I was into ASOIAF.

I’ve never read that one, but I like other stuff of his that I’ve read. I’ve heard lots of good things about it. Let me know if you like it. If so I’ll add it to my list. We seem to like some of the same stuff.

Very good book. I just started agent in place as well. First book in the series was one of the better books I’ve read in a while.
