Outboard Motor Title?

Looking at a bateau...owner has title and registration on both trailer and boat that were issued in 2015. Motor does not have title. The title for the boat just says “propulsion: outboard”
I understand that titling these things are relatively new.
Boat is an 1995 with appropriate HIN and paperwork
Motor is a 92 Suzuki 25 hp
Am I going to run into issues getting this motor titled? (It would be impossible to find the Manufacturers Statement of Origin on the motor as the ldwf states on their website for motors 25 hp and above that have never been titled)

If you're not buying it out of state, you don't need a title for either. Most people don't have titles for their motors on their boats. All you need is the signed registration to register it in LA.

if i remember correctly you will need notarized a bill of sale with the motor make, model, and VIN.

Curious as well. I bought my boat in Florida in 2016 but reside in Louisiana. When I paid it off this year I got a title for the boat, trailer and motor. My other boat that I bought in 2012 in Louisiana did not come with a title for the motor, boat and trailer only. Not sure if it’s a state to state thing or a newer year thing?

From my understanding, all new boats will come with 3 separate titles. Maybe someone whom recently purchased a brand new rig could confirm this. As for a used purchase, I bought a used boat/motor/trailer at the end of last summer. I was given the option to title the motor and maybe the hull too, can’t remember exactly. I elected not to.

Yes...You will need 1 notarized bill of sale that includes all 3:
Boat - model/vin/year, etc
Motor - model/vin/year, etc.
Trailer - model/vin/year, etc.
Then you only need a title for the boat and a title for the trailer.
Motor should be included in boat title. (for older boats anyway). Saw someone above post something different about newer boats.
All the forms you need are on LDWF website under forms.

Everyone here is saying you have to have a bill of sale, but I bought a 2015 Yamaha 25HP last year with cash. Didn't do a bill of sale. Didn't do any paperwork at all. My boat and trailer were brand new, and I have paperwork on them, but I called LDWF and the guy I spoke with said I didn't have to register the motor or anything like that. Haven't gotten into any trouble yet.
ETA: I just called LDWF for piece of mind. I was told that, for my motor size, if it was never titled, then no paperwork is necessary.

I'm not 100% sure. But I'd imagine once you start getting over like $5000 motors, you'd want to have some type of paperwork.

Bought a used BassCat last August from Mississippi. I live in La. Only true title you get is for the trailer.( In La.) Mississippi doesn't require trailer registration. Original Bill of Sale is needed for boat registration, trailer registration, and motor. KEY POINT (learned the hard way), You will need a separate BOS for the trailer, and for boat and motor. DMV wants original to register trailer, and LDWF wants an original to register the boat and motor. You can thank me later for that info. I fought it for 2 weeks trying to get all that shite correct.

Not really. 25hp and up outboards that have a loan need titles or if you are bringing it from another state who requires outboard motor titles.
If you buy a new or used outboard with cash, it's just like buying anything else. No registration required.

I had to get all 3 titled on boat, motor and trailer i purchased a year ago.
Everyone said i didnt need motor title but after sending in paperwork to lwlf i had to get it done.
They wanted everything before sending back my numbers.
Also had to prove the taxes were paid and needed signature of tax assessor office saying so

this is what LDWF told me. What size motor do you have? Maybe thats the reason?
