What you got on this spectrum? I like to read books that keep me up at night. These are some of my favorites.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon. It was written - and takes place - in the 80s when the threat of nuclear Armageddon was real. It's one of my favorite books.

I kind of like a series of books. But I'm gonna check that one out too.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy is an obvious suggestions, but I'm sure you've read that one already.

"The Gone-Away World" if you're up for some science fiction in this genre.

+1

I'll add The Pesthouse by Jim Crace. It's been a while since I read it. I wouldn't put it anywhere near as good as McCarthy, but it was readable.

I'll second Swan Song, though it is heavy on fantasy.

Canticle for Liebowitz is really good, also a bit more sci-fi/fantasyish.

Earth Abides is good, a more realistic look at the apocalypse.

Good Omens is one of my favorite books, hilarious and heavy on fantasy. The TV series should be out soon.

I just read Fever, which was good.

Loved The Stand and liked Swan Song, as a point of comparison.

The Wool series or the Joe Ledger series. If you like audiobooks then go with Ledger. Ray Porter narrates so you know it is great.
