Anyone have experiences with Seaside ? Just looking for something different than Orange Beach, Destin, etc.
Or anyplace similar to Seaside.

Prepare to pay, it's expensive.
Nice for a large family that wants to rent a house for a week. All amenities a short walk or bike ride from where you would stay.
Watercolor is right by Seaside and Rosemary Beach is a little further down.

Expensive and crowded.
If you want laid back, St George Island is great. Bugs can be kind of bad there though.

You have to go east of Mexico Beach these days to get that old 30a feel.

If you stay at Navarre Beach, you may easily drive west, along the Gulf Islands Nat'l Seashore, & find a stretch of Beach un-crowded...

If it helps your decision any, we go out to 98 to avoid 30A through Seaside a lot of the time because it's THAT crowded

You can find uncrowded spots on 30a, or you can find crowds.

30A still beats most of the places West of it. You can still find some Old Florida along 30A, you just got to look and know a bit about the area. SeaGrove adjoins Seaside and is good while still accessible. If you go all the way up toward Stinky's, there aren't a lot of hotels.
As others said, though, if you want to really get into the Old Florida feel, head all the way down to St. George Island.
We've been going to the Redneck Riviera for 45 years or so (5 generations now. Started with a family-owned cabin at Ft. Morgan that got killed by Hurricane Frederick, then Destin, then 30A). We finally stopped a couple of years ago as family's interests changed. I'd love to make a trip over couple of years again, though.

We have a nice rental in Seagrove this year, been doing that for the last few and have the hang of it now.

While you're at it, rent a cottage in Grayton Beach. It's far enough away from 30A that you don't get the traffic. You can walk see the beach from your beach house and walk onto the beach without having to go up and down steps to get over the dunes. Grayton Beach State Park surrounds the town, so it gives it a buffer from the crowd. You can walk to Seaside on the beach.

I wouldn't say Seaside and the surrounding area is bad, and it just depends on what you want out of beach trip. There is a bit of a keeping up with the Jones's mentality down there. The "oh, everyone talks about getting afternoon drinks at Bud & Alley's, so we HAVE to do that" kind of thing. Seaside also gets very crowded, and the houses closer to the beach are pretty pricey.
30A is several miles long though, and there are other areas a little less crowded. Easy to go to Grayton or Seagrove or Blue Mt and have a relaxing trip. All of those are close enough to Seaside to drive or walk over and check it out if you're so inclined.
