so the real question in hindsight is could the Pelican have put together something better than Kanter, McDermott, and a 2nd?

For example would Hill, Ajinca, Diallo, and a 2nd or 1st round pick be comparable?

On the plus side, one less big man in the west to guard AD and Boogie ??

Thanks God all this stupid stuff conecting Melo with Pels will end.

People. Even if Pels would have assets (they dont)- Melo had right to veto any trade. And he was not going to agree to come to NO
He agreed for a trade after Russ & PG combined work.

Of course. All I'm asking is if he waived the no trade clause from Boogie and AD convincing him, could we put together a package similar and would we want to?

Look I'm not a Melo fan, but him on the Pelicans would make us an undisputed top 5 team in the West. Plus it would almost guarantee Boogie resigning. And by the time Melo's contract would be up, Asik could be movable again.

All I'm saying is that with the limited options the Pelicans have, it's definitely not that worst solution

But since that's not obviously happening, the Pels need to figure out how they are going to guard that team. If they go Russ, Roberson, PG, Melo, Adams how do we respond? I'd assume with Rondo, Jrue, Allen, AD, and Boogie but that's a tough offensive lineup. We could sub Cunningham in for Allen, or we could have Jrue guard PG13 and Clark come in at the 2 for some offense and guard Roberson since Roberson is an average/sub-par offensive player

Don't think this will have much of an impact on us making the playoffs. OKC was probably finishing ahead of us anyway.

I will enjoy watching Melo trying to guard AD 3-4 times a year though

How are the thunder going to guard the Pels?
Paul George on AD?

I say you split your two best defenders on Jrue and AD. So Roberson or PG13. Russ can take Rondo and Melo can guard whoever else is out there. I think thats where I would lean

I wouldnt be surprised if Melo guards AD though or if they just go zone on D

Nah

They were probably 3rd-5th in the west before and are solidly 2nd/3rd now

Pretty much the same if he was traded to HOU

Man, wait til d-wade gets bought out. OKC will wreck shop on the west when he signs with them.

Still have high hopes for the Pelicans though.

Playoffs baby

Pels are not winning the Championship this year.

OKC was going to be better than NO this year. So it is not that another team become better.

OKC have George and Russ expiring. Melo with PO. They may have bigger tax bill than GSW...

Doubt that small market will pay so much

It’s gonna be great watching Melo/Ryno type guys try to guard AD or Boogie. We really need to develop into a team that just bullies the other team instead of having AD and /or boogie sitting outside trying to pay like a ryno type. No team has enough tough rebounders to compete with us

One ball and two of top three (and three of top ~10) most frequent isolation players. Huge risk for OKC that both lowers the floor, but the West is now where you either take risks or you'll definately fail.

Doubtful, but I wouldn't actually want them to. He would basically cement our status as all-star losers.
