Day Activities in San Francisco... Not Alcatraz

Going back out to the west coast for work in a couple weeks and I have most of Monday (arrive at 9:30) to do whatever.
Last time, I did the Alcatraz Night Tour and spent most of the day around Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf.
What else would you recommend doing for the day in or around the city?

Rent a bike and take it across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito

We just got back from San Francisco this week. Check out the hop on hop off bus tour. We enjoyed it and you can also combine other tours with it including riding a bike.
Muir Woods was good also. It was a little longer trip to get there than we expected.

Live in San Fran back in the day. Things to do. Use some uber however the bus system is really good.
- Fort Point and walk the Golden Gate Bridge
- Walk around the Presido, Lucas Arts is there now as well
- Go to the top of Twin Peaks, best at night. You can do it by bus, but uber might be quicker.
- Lombard street, it is a tourist thing to do
- Union Square for some shopping
- Chinatown - duh
- Coit Tower
- Castro - might as well see all the gays. You can knock that out if you go to Twin Peaks
- Take BART to Berkeley and start a riot
SF is a great town.

Go to a Giants game if they're in town.

My favorite thing to do there is just to walk around all the cool neighborhoods, then stop in places along the way for food, a drink or coffee, to browse, etc. You have the Mission, Chinatown, Castro, Japantown, union square or tenderloin (if you dare), haight ashbury, little Italy. You really have no excuse to not find something to do there.
Skip the pier 39

I second this, San Francisco is an excellent city to explore on foot, tons of hidden walkways and parks to explore.

Swan Oyster Depot. Get in line early. They've got a sweet San Fran Y.A. Tittle jersey there. Only about 12 bar seats though and its always crowded. But the food is delicious. Get the crab back. Thank me later.
Also, if youre in china town, go to the Golden Gate fortune cookie factory. Bring cash. You can buy all the fresh fortune cookies you want, and even make your own fortunes to give to friends and family. Really cool spot -- its in Ross Alley. Its not that expensive, but they dont take card.

Go have an Irish coffee at the Buena Vista. As the name implies, great view of the sunset.

Thanks everybody. Sounds like I'm just going to hop on the BART, get downtown and explore.

I would also add Beachblanket Babylon to the list.

San Fran is second to none when it comes to sight seeing.

Haight Ashbury area. Castro District. Harvey Milk Plaza. Go see St. Peter Paul Church where Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio.

Walk the Filbert Steps from the Bay to Coit Tower and on to Washington Park for Lunch, Dinner, Coffee or Gelato.
(Feel free to wear hiking boots and thank me later!)
