What exactly do you expect him to do at Mississippi state?

Win the west without having an NFL caliber QB in a league with Alabama, LSU, and Auburn? Something the other 3 non big 6 members have done a combined total of 3 times since 1992

He got hired at state because he had Tebow and he still has a job at state because of Dak. He hasn't done anything worth while at state before and now after Dak. So no I don't want him.

Did those players come already developed or did he develop them?

Mullen hates to recruit and puts little effort. He's had 2 QBs carry his career and Mediocre at best. State fans don't like him anymore and wish he would leave.

He's checked out at MS State. He knows he has taken that program as far as possible. I also think he's really pissed off about the situation at the school to the north and why there hasn't been an faster resolution to it. He realizes as long as they are allowed to do what they have been doing, he will not get much if any of the limited in state talent. Prior to the OM cheatgate, he was poised to have MS State take over in state recruiting and with that, he would have honestly kept State pretty damn competitive every year.

I think Dan Mullen peaked with 2014 MSU. I don't think he's a bad coach, but I don't think he's good enough to lead a team to be a perennial contender. Honestly MSU is the perfect place for him, where 8-4 is considered a success.

He's gonna finish last place in the West this year? He's basically Gene Chizik who had a State version of Cam Newton and also never really won anything meaningful. Will that do it? I'd rather have not fired Miles and I've been one of the biggest supporters of his firing.

Mullen served as offensive coordinator at the University of Florida and was also under Urban Meyer at Utah, where he was quarterback coach of the Utes during their undefeated 2004 season. He developed quarterback Alex Smith into the number 1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. After Urban Meyer left to take the head coaching position at Florida, Mullen served as the interim offensive coordinator during Utah's Fiesta Bowl victory over Pitt. During his tenure at Utah, he also recruited and partially developed Brian Johnson, QB who led Utah to 13–0 and Sugar Bowl victory in 2009.[4] He also served as quarterback coach under Meyer at Bowling Green in 2001–02.

As a coach, Mullen has tutored several notable players, including quarterbacks Alex Smith (Utah), Josh Harris (Bowling Green), Chris Leak (Florida), Heisman Trophy-winner Tim Tebow (Florida), and Dak Prescott (Mississippi State).

He sounds like a good OC then but as a HC, he just lost to South Alabama and likely won't be making a bowl appearance this year.

Apparently, he is difficult to deal with.

He had really one good stretch of two years when Dak was QB.

He was OC at Florida and when they were replacing Muschamp, he didn't even get looked at (unspoken issues maybe).

Lastly, he is an offense guy and sometimes his offenses look pretty damn bad.

He did recruit Dak Prescott and coached him up to be NFL ready.

I'd be fine with Dan Mullen as a "settle for" candidate if we can't get Herman, Fisher, Petrino, etc. and assuming O did not do enough to keep the job.

With this recruiting base, I think he could win big here.
