If you don't have enough confidence in him to be good with anyone he hires, then why hire him?

Mullen took a program who had 1 winning season in the previous 8 years, and went 9-4 in his 2nd year there. In that season Auburn was 14-0, LSU was 11-2, Bama was 10-3 and Arkansas was 10-3.

That was a great year for them, and showed what he could do with more resources(see:competent QB). He has recruited well on defense as well, and his offense is up with the times. I dont think people realize how hard it is to recruit to Miss St. Louisiana is light years richer, and you have a kid's attention immediately when you walk into their home.

It still kind of baffles me when these coaching searches come up, that people can't separate the coach from the position they are in. Like "Oh, the Miss St coach?? no way"... or "He cant win 10 games at Miss St!!!"....c'mon guys.

Mullen has had 6 winning seasons out of 7.

Miss St had just 6 winning seasons in the previous 17 years before him. The man can coach.

and CEO couldn't even sniff 5 wins in any of his 3 season as HC at Ole Miss.

Yet people want to hire him over Mullen.

Wrong... Dak had them @ #1

When team is losing, coach's fault.

Team winning, not the coach...it's the players

What he was saying was would they have been #1 without Dak as the QB.

NOPE

Is it a fair question to ask, if Mullen was the head coach at a smaller school with ripe recruiting grounds and an easier schedule, like Houston, how successful would he be? BilJ mentioned an easy schedule earlier in the thread and he had a point. But there's also the other side of that coin as well.

Would he be doing the same thing Herman is doing? Is it fair to ask how Herman would fair at a school like Miss. St.?

Who is responsible for recruiting and developing Dak? Or Dak never improved from the time he got to campus to the time he left Starkville?

Coach Mullen. I was stating fact though. Miss St wouldn't have been #1 without Dak.

Credit to Mullen for putting him in the position to do his thing. That's all you ask out of coaches

There's no team in the country that can be successful without the right talent.

Miss St as #1 was shocking to me. The simple fact Mullen was able to get to #1 shows he is a good coach.

Remember Chris Relf? He was a 2 star recruit. His stats for the two years he started was: passing for 3,200 yards/28TDs and rushing for 1,600 yards/9TD's. He's done a good job with terrible talent and the lowest athletic budget in the SEC. He would be a huge improvement over Les Miles.

When you look at what he has to work with, you cant deny that he has done wonders for that program.

Only ppl who disagree are the ones wearing the Herman/Jimbo goggles

Mullen coached under Meyer longer than Herman. There is a reason Meyer kept him around so long. The guy is a good coach, he's just stuck at Miss State. The question is why hasn't he moved on. No other school has offered him a job.

He's already pushing 5 million a year at Moo State. All the schools that would pay more haven't really been looking for a coach. Until now.

This, all day. People think MSU has the same resources LSU has. They don't come close to what he'd have in BR. While I would take Jimbo and Herman before him, we could do a lot worse.

He's one hell of a double.

But we are swinging for the fences here,

My thoughts exactly.

Plus, the void at MSU would mean CEO could very well end up there having been scorned for the LSU HC job. It could be a worst case scenario.

I'm hoping Mullen stays in Starkville for quite some time.

What if I don't want to hire either one?

If we make it to that tier on the list this whole thing has most likely been a train wreck.

id be curious to know how many times they have been the favorite vs teams in the SEC West during his tenure. He's beaten every team in the SEC West besides Alabama(has played them close a few times).

He's nailed Ark 4x, Auburn3x, OM,3x LSU (@ home), and A&M just once.

They pretty much lose to who they are supposed to, which a bunch of mild upsets thrown in.

Mullen hates to recruit and puts little effort. He's had 2 QBs carry his career and Mediocre at best. State fans don't like him anymore and wish he would leave.
