Yeah, it went pretty well, but my mash efficiency was lower than my first all-grain batch by about 10%... OG ended up 1.074, which was a LOT lower than I was shooting for. I have a feeling my mash water wasn't the right temperature.

Oddly enough, my pre-boil gravity was 1.084, then it went down to 1.074, which I found very strange, usually it goes up as water boils off.

So it'll probably end up around 7% instead of the 10% I was looking for. Oh well.

that just means you can drink more in one sitting!

I'm still tinkering with the praline porter recipe I based off your praline dubbel recipe. I can't wait to brew it, but looks like I wont have time to do it before the holidays.

Fact. I did sparge out a half-gallon more than I originally intended, but I was shooting for the 1.100 range and missed by a lot... more than a half-gallon would make up for.

Your mash and sparge runnings might not have been completely mixed yet. Boil takes care of that. Could also be as simple as forgetting to adjust for temperature. I'm guilty of that one.

I adjusted for temperature, so it was probably just not mixed well enough yet.
