I enjoyed visiting Sloss Furnaces.

Had a nice lunch at Helen once.

Haven't been much to that city, so can't provide any other recs.

Friend,

Birmingham is home to some great signs and the outdoor Civil Rights Park downtown near 16th St. Baptist Church is great. The pizza at Postmark Pies, which was at the time ranked as a top 50 pizzeria in the nation, was disappointing. Even though I do not particularly enjoy BBQ, Saw's BBQ is also nationally ranked. They offer really tasty greens.

Jasper Mall, which was the subject matter of the 2020 blockbuster film, is only a 40 minute drive from Birmingham. I thought it was well worth the time. Jasper itself is a nice town.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Friend,

You are excellent at Google searching top lists in a city...I hope to one day have your travel acumen.

Best Wishes,

Friend,

The Post Office Pies visit detailed in the above link was a product of happenstance and its lofty ranking comes from an article in the USA Today. The Saw’s BBQ suggestion came from a friend on TD who told Cousin, a member whose name I will not reveal, to try it. The signs come from meanders. You will not believe the Top 10s that are in store for Advent.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

P.S. My condolences that Old Metairie finished behind Metry in most desirable places to live in Jefferson Parish. As SuperSaint, quoting the affable Tom Fitzmorris says, “You call that livin’?”

I’m big on doing things I can only do or see where I am. In Birmingham, that would be:

Sloss Furnaces
Barber’s Motor Sports
Civil Rights Museum
Vulcan Park
Alabama or Lyric Theaters

Not sure about any events this weekend. Birmingham is a great food town. Plenty of really good local places to go.

What are you looking for? Day drinking and fine dining? Hikes or museums? Kids or all adults? Happy to provide reccs on things to do and places to eat but could use a little more info.

I am 99% certain the OP has sense enough to pay no attention to this, but just in case, don’t go to Jasper.

The Barber Motorsports Museum is the best attraction in town. You can check out Bucees while you’re out there.

Drive around Forest Park and Mountain Brook and grab coffee and something sweet at Continental Bakery. Then go the back way over and down the mountain to Trim Tab for a beer. Then, Barrio or La Fresca--probably have to eat at the bar. Yuck it up with some Bama fans. Most will be glad you are visiting.

If you have time, walk around Railroad park or go to Barber.

Have dinner Friday night at either Helen or Tasting Tbl.

Absolutely go to Continental Bakery and drive through English Village.

Lunch I'd hit Saw's Juke Joint or Soul Kitchen. Tons of good breweries. Weather will be incredible. Enjoy and Geaux Tigers

Funny Continental got brought up twice in this thread. My kid works there as a manager. Not sure I've ever even been.
