Heading up to Toledo around Many for the first time. I am 99% saltwater fisherman (only freshwater experience is neighborhood ponds and a little marsh bass fishing).

We will have a boat and a couple Kayaks and the rental is on the water.

Our main focus is to relax/hang out so we aren’t looking to load the boat and certainly aren’t trophy fishing. Our plan is to put out a few noodles in the cove by the camp and do some rod/reel fishing in the area.

What bait do y’all use for jug line/noodles? Chicken livers, ivory soap?

Basic tips on catching Bass/White Perch in early June?

Previous posts said the boat lanes are well marked and make sure to idle outside of them. Anything else I should be wary about running a new area?

Be careful of where/how you tie your boat up. Boating etiquette around there can be exceedingly shitty in the summer with so many jackasses operating ski boats and party barges who shouldn't be anywhere around a boat. Mines got a few scars on it from last trip and it getting banged against the dock due to some dumbass plowing by 15' away from my boat. Aint no amount of bumpers going to save it from that shite.

That's all I got. Watch out for the bassholes going 90, the idiots tubing in the boat lane, and don't get too far away if weather is close. That lake gets pretty damn rough with a stout north or south wind.

Best bet is fish the mornings and night Boaters will be all over past about 10 am.

Most everything is moving deep except bream. They should be bedding again soon

Bass I like a Carolina rig on the points
Perch will be on brush piles. If you don’t have electronics they can be hard to pinpoint

If you have a fly rod - a popping bug around the dock lights at night is a load of fun

Cast net some shad and fresh cut them for bait. Shiners or small live bream if you can't catch shad.

Frog early up shallow for bass during the first hour. Then move out deep... White perch are deep, without knowing where any brush piles are, you'll be pissing in the wind. Charter a white perch trip with Bent Rods or Living the Dream.

Main lake lane bouys are well marked. Creek and secondary ones are not. If you have a gps unit pay for the boat lanes chip.

Stay in the boat lanes

Don’t feel like you have to fish the whole place, Make short runs. The worst trips I’ve been on was when we spent half our time running from place to place. You don’t have to move far to find changes in depth, temp, clarity.

Be careful of falling into the trap of trying to do too much in 1 trip. You have listed at the minimum, bass fishing, white perch fishing, running noodles, kayaking, potentially bank/dock fishing, and relaxing.

I fell into this trap the first several times I planned the weekend up there. TB is a wonderful place to fish, relax, and spend a few days. But be warned, it is easy to get on fish up there (target species or otherwise) and run yourself out of a relaxing weekend chasing them; it's also damn easy to get skunked and spend all weekend chasing them.

Also, you should consider the "difficulty" of fishing white perch on Toledo Bend in June on your first trip.

Agree. Don't try to stay on the water all day for 4 days straight. Try to come in for lunch and take breaks. Also take a morning or an afternoon off to just relax, fry some fish or just shoot the shite by the water.

Yea, it ain't an easy place to fish mid summer even if you do fish there alot.

After my last 2 trips in dog days of summer, I'm not even bringing a bass or sacalait pole this year. Just going to drown worms off the pier at night and boat ride / tube / swim / cook during the day.

Guys I know who don't fish anywhere else have bad trips in the heat of summer sometimes, so I'm not going to even bother wasting my time anymore unless it's a pure full blown fishing trip. It cuts into the family time too much for a tough trip.

I've been on two guided trips to Toledo Bend with local well known guides. Not one nibble either time. Timing and conditions are everything- good luck!

^100% this. That lake is way to big to break down the whole thing. Pick the area of the lake where you are staying and then just try to break down that bay. Trust me, it'll be plenty big to hold any and every type of cover you need to catch fish. If you are going to be close to Many I'm assuming you'll either be in the San Miguel or LaNan/1215, or Negreet area or maybe a little further south but regardless, those areas have plenty to fish. Start with the obvious, enjoy the time on the water, and HAVE FUN! Those of us at work will envy you!!!
