He didn’t do that great for us, but he’s had a couple good games against us as DC.

Wrong board, but he’ll do well there with Saban.

Kevin Steele was trash at LSU in 2015. Blown coverage all over the field. Why it was such a surprise he did pretty well at Auburn. Hopefully he reverts back to trash now that he’s at Alabama.

Our defense was fine in 2015.

Our offense couldn't move the ball an inch in November.

Never understand the grief that Steele gets from folks here. I guess he wasn't the splashy hire that everyone wanted when tamu poached Chavis.

It’s not a home run hire but Saban doesn’t need a HR hire DC. Steele is a fairly solid DC and with the material he’ll have to work with, the gumps will continue to be among the favorites for the NC every season.

First LSU defense in history to give up 19 or more points in the first 10 games.

brandon harris and anthony jennings were our options at quarterback.

They were in 2014 too and that was one of the best defenses in the SEC

I often like to refer to "move the needle" players in professional sports. Joe Burrow "moved the needle" for the Bengals for example. You can be a good player, but not necessarily be good enough to truly move the needle.

That's kind of where I fit Steele in. I think he's a good DC, and I think he's a good hire. But he's not a move the needle hire. He won't make the Bama D significantly better than they've previously been.

People on the SECrant are shitting on this hire. I don’t think it’s that bad.

KS was dealing with Les Miles bullshite while he was here. And he excelled at Auburn. I don’t think he will be bad at Bama. Definitely shouldn’t assume their D will suck all the sudden, especially with their superior talent YOY.

He defended our 2019 team better than anyone (Auburn). Steele's a solid defensive mind. No doubt about it.

He runs a pretty basic defense with little surprises but he does it with solid technique. That will translate well to kids with the amount of talent Alabama has. He’s way better if a coach than Golding but not anywhere near the recruiter. Give and take I guess but their D will be better this year.

He’s became a much better defensive coach since leaving LSU. Those Auburn defenses he had were nasty. I think Saban wants his defenses to be like the Bama of old and KS may be able to do that.

KS 2015 defense was better than Matt House 2022.

Steele is a safe hire, nothing amazing, nothing too awful. With the athletes they have I am sure he will do well. Happy it’s not someone that runs a more aggressive defense honestly. Especially with our run first QB.

It helps when you have Derrick brown. He runs a 4-2-5 which seems to be what Saban has been moving to recently. Definitely not going to be like his old defenses when he had Kirby.

Tell me where they ranked instead of making meaningless statements.

Here are the 2015 Defense ranking according to https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/2015/team/22 I would not call them trash.

Total Defense #9
Passing Yards Allowed #3
Scoring Defense #5
Red Zone Defense #34
Rushing Defense #46

His personnel choices, particularly at linebacker were not good at all. Miles left him with all the responsibilities. He is not that kind of DC. Talent evaluation IMO was his worst attribute. Of course we didn’t have the kind of depth he’ll find at Bama. He’ll be fine with Saban making those decisions week in and out.
