And doesn’t look at the big picture. Is there an excuse for the performance today? Absolutely not. But anyone acting like this year hasn’t been a step in the right direction is kidding themselves. Johnson doesn’t have a single starting pitcher that he can truly rely on(Hilliard’s been great but we all know he’s not a Friday guy) and we’re 17-13 in the SEC with a chance at hosting a regional. Just wait until Johnson gets some stud starting pitchers in this program like we’re used too. This year is gravy for Johnson and he’s exceeded expectations in my opinion.

Yeah today was bad but this team was pieced together and got to 17 SEC wins. We’re headed in the right direction.

Not only that but the td posters can go from we’re going to Omaha to we suck on one pitch and back to Omaha the next

Their absolutely is- 1am and 2am ending times the previous 2 days. These guys are worn out. I didn’t get to watch the whole game, but I was pretty sure in the first 3 innings that they didn’t have it today. Rest up for whatever regional we’re headed to.

The pitching staff was pieced together from top to bottom. Hilliard, who’d be a Saturday stater on most SEC rosters, was the unquestioned ace. The bullpen was excellent though.

The lineup was good already, but made better with Berry. It’s pretty clear there’s not a SEC caliber SS on the roster though.

He’s done a B- job, which is fine. I don’t think he deserves overbearing praise just yet. The final record still fell below the talent level on this team

Mainieri’s last season : 38-25 (.603)
Johnson’s first season : 38-20 (.655)

Mainieri Last SEC season : (13-17)
Johnson’ first SEC season : (17-13)

Johnson’s worst case record ( 38-22) (.633)

I’m trying to understand the correlation.

Is admitting that we’ve improved from last year considered overbearing praise?

Johnson added some great complimentary pieces to an already solid roster,

He gets props for that, but also doesn’t mean he cannot under achieve and play flat & disinterested for extended periods of time.

Agreed. He improved the roster and made the team better. By doing that he also raised the expectations. I’m looking forward to what he can do moving forward. That doesn’t mean he can’t be critiqued in the moment.

And I mean I’m splitting hairs. But the margins are slim. I thought this was a 20-10 SEC team on paper

I do the same. Honestly if the defense is just serviceable, like we thought it would be before the season, 20-10 isn’t a crazy thought.

If you have Berry for the Ole Miss series this team is very close to being 20-10
