Woodward didn't get played. Riley camp played chess.

First, I drank the Kool-Aid too, so I'm not saying I'm smarter than anyone else. But the sky is not falling.
This is actually pretty easy to see in hind sight.
This was a brilliant move by Riley's agent to get Riley paid. He struck a match, with the "Riley to LSU" rumor, then sat back and watched as the demand for his client, Riley, went through the roof.
Woodward, most likely, had nothing to do with Riley. This whole scenario was a fiction novel authored by Riley's agent, who made a lot of money, and did a lot for his reputation, with this deal.
I'm not saying Riley was not on Woodward's radar, but I don't think he was ever Woodward's first choice. I think LSU was used, as leverage, but Woodward was none the wiser.
The reason Riley didn't clearly answer any of the questions about him staying at OU, was because he was leaving OU, just not to LSU.
I actually feel better about the situation after Riley, than before. I think it means Woodward has hired someone, it just can't be announced yet. For 100% sure, if Woodward could announce, he would. There is a reason he cannot and I don't think it's because he doesn't have the position filled.

Whatever makes you feel better.

Riley was scared of the SEC. Dude is soft

Ill wait to decide this AFTER the Woodward hire is made public. Woody may have a better hire lined up. I’ll save any melt until then.

Both of you have no idea what happened. None of us do. So acting like he’s crazy for coming up with a theory that is no different than whatever theory you have. It’s all guesses

Hi Scotty.

It's as good an explanation as any.

Even if LSU did offer Riley, which will eventually come out, its clear Riley wanted no part of the SEC. So fudge him, I wouldn't have wanted a coach scarred of the best competition.

This board is full of delusional dolts who cannot accept the obvious truth that Woodward pursued Riley and lost him to USC. Instead, they concoct elaborate fantasies and vast internet conspiracies.

Lots of stories about Riley in Baton Rouge and they’re very persistent.
So why was Riley in Baton Rouge?
Jerk fest?

It’d be nice if LSU comes up as the subject of playing underwater chess at the end of this hire.
We know Woodward has this ability. I’m fine waiting it out. I’m also fine with losing a recruit or five for the right coach.
Who knows, the right guy may reel them back in. It will tell you a lot of our target recruits don’t sign early.

Media close to LSU was saying the whole time it wasn’t Riley but people wouldn’t listen. I don’t see why people think Woody got burned. It was all cooked up by Rileys agent to take the heat off of USC.

Is it? Finding/creating leverage where you can is basic negotiations 101.The tactic is as old as time. Easy to achieve in the coaching search world with fanatics and click-bait journalists running with anything and everything that they hear.

nah there was plenty of smoke on here before last week suggesting it was Never Riley. But this board dismissed it and ran with it as fast as they could.

There is a reason why the other big programs already have a coach bro.

So after drinking the Kool-Aid you concocted your own Kool-Aid and want us to drink it this one too.
Guesses aren't wisdom.

I think that's a pretty good take.

Even if he got played, so what. That happens when hiring people, move to you next best candidate.
