She is not getting the scores she deserves. She had a stuck vault and got a 9.95

Vault- 49.475

Everyone stuck their landing…except Sarah but that’s not surprising.

I was only watching out of the corner of my eye - but is it possible that Kiya did a full - it didn't look as twisty, and would also explain the 9.95 (it looked like one of her really good ones to me).

We look terrible. We're not going to make it out of this session. Two falls beam.

what an absolute waste of a year.
thank god for relying on the super seniors.
glad they were there to take reps and experience away from the underclassman who could've used it. but hey, they came up clutch today so it was all worth it

Have to say That it’s the super seniors who have let this team down - they just don’t have the mental strength for whatever reason - a repeat fall kinda from Sami and a lead off fall from Christina is just not good enough. Haleigh was sick and it’s Aleah’s first year so I understand them cracking under pressure but overall this team has not lived up to its potential. Very sad.

This dude Jay has now been given the keys to the gymnastic equivalent to 2 luxury cars, has crashed one (UGA), and is in the process of crashing ours.

This dude cannot coach/set a lineup to save his life. Great he is a fast talker and can recruit.

The ONLY reason I would keep him is because of Konnor McClain. Can't risk losing her. She will likely be an Olympic gold medalist when she gets onto campus.

Embarrassing end to a poor season; a season filled with excuses and self fulling prophecy.

Make no mistake: we deserve this result.

They were unfortunate with the injury bug to Kiya and Haleigh but its hard to get past finishing 5th at SEC's and worse.. not even making it to the regional final. That part is the most embarrassing. This was our worst finish in a long long long time.

I'm not going to get mad at individual gymnasts. If someone is not good enough or consistent enough, its not their fault. Its on the coaches who put those athletes in those positions. They are the one's being paid the big bucks to recruit, develop athletes and put them in a position to be successful.

We need greater focus on training the mind and should look to employ a better mindset coach and sports psychologist. We also need to focus on smarter routine construction (even tho there has been some improvements this year) to enable individuals to feel more confident. We also need to let more individuals exhibition and pulling people out of line ups more often when they continuously don’t hit to give someone else a shot and make the environment more competitive (eg the continuous Sami beam project that went on far too long). It really needs to be best in practice is who makes line up - I don’t feel like the competition for spots has been there this year and feel people became more complacent because of it knowing either that they would never make the line up or knowing they always would make the line up regardless of mistakes. This is just my view from the outside and I’m not close to the program or the people in it but main thing for me is we need to find our competitive edge as it’s been severely lacking this year.

I agree. I’ve been very critical of Jay Clark as head coach. I am very happy for Mizzou and Iowa. As DD used to say consistency wins. I feel like every team has dealt with adversity. Compare LSU and Oklahoma. Arguably their best gymnast Olivia Trautman has done only beam this season. They lost more from last year then we did, but the staff has done a tremendous job in maximizing their potential. It’s on the head coach mainly to prepare the gymnast. U lead by example. What goes on in practice idk. But obviously Elena has trouble on the dismount . Dunne form issues. I feel like Durante should have been moved up and Kiya further back. That’s lineup selection. Where was Aleah on bars . Yes injury’s played a part but most teams deal with that throughout a season. Jay has a lot of experience as a coach recruiter but head coach is a different ball game. Based off his interviews he seems cocky and full of excuses.

I completely agree! I have been paying more attention to Oklahoma this year since I have 2 of their gymnasts on my fantasy gym team. For one of their meets, I remember the announcers saying that two of the girls warming up on bars had no idea if they were going to be in the lineup for the day. KJ told them both to be ready to go and then just a few minutes before the rotation started, she ended up having the new girl compete instead of the one who normally goes in. Things like this will pick up the competitive edge and keep the girls from getting to complacent in their roles.

I also didn’t like the lack of exhibition routines. They really needed to take advantage of that, especially this year when some of the super seniors were taking up line up spots and this wasn’t giving a chance for others to compete and gain experience. That whole super senior year really did set the younger athletes back for next year and beyond. I guess other teams are dealing with the same issue, but we had so many!

I was happy to see that quite a bit of the routines were changed this year, but they could improve on routine construction as well. I’m afraid Haleigh’s reconstruction on floor may have hurt her scoring potential more this year. I know she was dealing with that pesky injury this whole year too, so that was also a factor. However, it was good to see so many 2 pass routines working well for us this year!

I feel so sad for these girls right now. I hope they can learn from this and get that competitive fire back next year. I also hope they can get the mental training they need to move on in meets and not let one mistake in a meet snowball into others. Hopefully this is a good learning experience for them and they grow from this (both the athletes and coaches).

Still holding out hope for Haleigh (vault) and Kiya (AA). Will need Michigan and UCLA to advance on Saturday.
