You change out a Levi Lewis if you have a Tua behind him. But for the most part you are ok with your Jalen Hurtd, They don’t have that luxury, exactly.
You're both ignoring his inability to recruit a better QB b/c of his lower level while we're supposed to pretend his results at a lower level are comparable.
You think Aranda has had a chance to get a superior QB into a mid-low level Big12 school with one recruiting cycle?

I thought “the process” only care about the process and getting better in every phase and not the outcome.
I guess that’s why he only uses between 70 and 80% of the process depending on the interview?

He's smart as shite and smart enough to not be stubborn. You used the argument about switching OCs after year 1 but I see that as a positive. He knew it wasn't working and moved on.
Exactly. Usually at this level, you have egos that play into it. Saban's ego is such that he understood he had to change his team dynamics, and he did. Aranda saw a problem and made an immediate change, and hit it out of the park, and he didn't have an Engsminger-type figure to help him find a diamond in the rough. It's a rare quality to know something doesn't work very early on and make a change, especially given how stubborn many elite coaches can be.

Actually a good point I've brought something up similar. I'd rather have an offensive mind but I'd still love Aranda hire.

Coach Charlie Brown of Neville said offense sells tickets, defense wins games

In a thread literally comparing him to a coach who has been stubborn as frick about his lame arse offense. Er, sorry, inability to recruit a QB.
Seriously the most I post about Napier the bigger Jimbo vibes I get.

Another thing to consider was the difference LSU's D made in in the post-season run. 3 games against top five opponents, two against top 10 offenses, and not more than 400 yards given up. That should be regarded as an elite performance, especially when discussing whether to focus on a QB guru or a defensive coach.
It would seem regardless you need some extremely elite unit to be successful in the playoffs. Clemson's D was number 1 in 2018, Alabama's D in 2017 was number 1 and so on, with the only real outlier being OSU in 2014, which had both units ranked in the 20s. The other unit has to be good enough but also has to have some elite element. Our LB play was definitely elite under Aranda, which also allowed us to nurture the entire D along in 2019.

Care to name any outside those 3?
Leonhard, Fickell, Venables, Pruitt, Hafley, etc. You only know of Saban, Kirby, plus one you saw at LSU.

Yeah I'm pretty confident if Aranda is named HC that Walker Howard is still coming to LSU.
I'm also confident Aranda has the smarts and LSU has the money to go out and get a quality OC.

I think they will have the 1st team all conf QB Jake

I’m not trying to compare results head up. But Napier has sustained success for quite a long time in CFB years. That means something
Aranda’s lack of a body of work is not so much a negative as it is just plain unknown

There are some legitimate real concerns about Aranda leading a program like LSU that this board just completely ignores.
And yet Napier with his whopping zero connections to LSU is the only one that ever gets "one of us"
Look, I don't dislike Dave, but his recruiting is a serious question mark and he's by far the favorite for the USC job. There is no way that Woodward is going to get into a bidding war over his fallback candidate at this point in the process. Especially when it's not even clear that Aranda is actually higher than Napier on his internal list. Our next coach is either Lincoln Riley or Billy Napier depending on what Riley decides. Sorry to all the Napier haters because Riley probably isn't going to make it to the finish line.

Napier is basically Jimbo-lite (really a recruiting-CEO guy who demands to run his shitty offense).
No disagreement that Napier's strengths as a coach is recruiting and program management, but I really don't see any evidence that he forces his offense on people. He runs a classic spread and likes having length at WR for red zone passing. I don't see how that's particularly limiting or even why it's offensive. He seems more invested into that than he really is because he kind of did the high school football thing of "make your best player the QB" which makes sense when you're at ULL and will never get a blue chip recruit. I also really don't understand why we're worried about offense in general. I'm much more worried about having a good defense than whether or not Louisiana will continue to produce NFL WRs that make any remotely decent scheme look like the work of a god.

I'm not arguing that.
I also plainly said that his intelligence is a rhetorical OP cheat code b/c any potential negative can get the "he's smart enough to fix it" response.

He also has never won his conference. For all his sustained success, that also means something.
I have no doubt Napier will recruit well and sound like he's completely in control in press conferences.
The question is how much Derrick Dooley he's got in him. That's why I'm fine with him as a backup for a mid-tier SEC price. I prefer that over the Jimbo stuff b/c they're similar but one we're married to forever.
I just think if we're talking Napier v. Aranda then Aranda is clearly the better candidate. Even with your offensive concerns, Baylor is better on offense this year than Napier.
Baylor is 24th in total offense and 14th in YPP
ULL is 64th or 65th in both.

His team was in the championship game last season the Conference decided not to have it.
Also Dooley was 17-20 at La Tech he had a single 8-5 season and somehow got the Tennessee Job after another losing Season

I think Napier is rather football-intelligent by listening to him speak. I think he’s more Dabo-lite than jimbo lite. He’s has his shite together
Posted on 11/21/21 at 4:58 pm to Lester Earl
Very few times I actually agree Lester Earl but this is one of them. I do think Aranda is a very good coach but the hiring would make me extremely nervous because he could be a great hire or a flop.
I would take him over Kiffin or Jimbo though because I don't consider either one to be a great offensive mind.
I would rather have a GREAT offensive mind as head coach. Saban gets away with it because of his system of perfection and holding everyone accountable. There's just not another Saban out there and probably never will be.

They have the 34th rushing offense in the country & the 13th overall scoring defense. It’s no secret how they win games
He’s a run first guy & his running games are always really good.
