If you are going to try and find an issue with him use recruiting.
Not “he has to find a good OC”
That makes zero sense because the opposite is true for every offensive coach

This goes both ways. If you have an offensive minded coach then they need to nail the DC hire all the time.
No.
CFB has evolved to where no defense can consistently shut down the good offenses. It’s much easier to put together a defense that can slow teams down/force some turnovers than it is to piece together an offense to keep up with elite scoring teams.
The OC is just more important than DC at this point imo.
Take Daronte. Is he actually now some elite DC that finally figured things out? Or is he just a decent coach that realized hey I have some great athletes so let me move these guys around to create some chaos and maybe we can get enough stops to give our offense a chance against Alabama?
It doesn’t take a genius to do that.
Offense, on the other hand, is harder to fake or just find something that works. It takes a consistent philosophy and, more importantly, consistently recruiting to fit that philosophy.
A revolving door of OCs will condemn LSU to another decade of up and down years with little consistency when it comes to truly competing against the elites.

"One of us" syndrome is inevitable for any candidate who spent time at LSU.

you think Napier truly brings the offensive pedigree to have that side of the ball locked down the way true innovators like Riley or Kiffin would?
No, I think he’s different but has to lean to his strength with the limitations he has at ULL.
That’s athletes at RB & QB, and a strong offensive line philosophy developed by Rob Sale
Given his back round at other stops, and who he has worked with, and hearing him talk, he can & will adjust with better talent

LSU has shuffled DCs for two decades with nearly any issues bro.
Offense dictates, defense adapts

Aranda did this in back to back games with OU and Clemson 2 years ago.

The knock would be he thought Larry Fedora and Jorge Munoz would work and thst failed miserably ala O. Napier on the other hand seems to have not missed on DC yet.

Isn’t your argument that the game has significantly changed? So that would imply what worked then wouldn’t work now (see bo pelini)
Hence why having one of the very few forward minded defensive guys is very valuable.
We have clearly shown over the last two years that LSU the program and the players is not what makes a good defense.

With an offense that put up 60 and 42.
Yes his defenses played well and made some big plays in those games, but that wasn’t a “defensive” team shutting down elite offenses.
That was a track meet blow out.

Napier on the other hand has had mediocre offenses which gets explained away as his qb sucks yet the offensive/recruiting guru can’t recruit all better qb

look at each teams offensive stats going into those games and what the defense did. He also did even better with our offense scoring less

Devils advocate here @ your second point, what if you have a HC who handles the Offensive side of the ball he will forever need to nail his DC position as well. Correct ? Whom do you have in mind that has proven to do this ? I mean your take was @DA Just asking your take it’s free

I mean that is exactly what I mean
I’m also not implying to hire bo Pelini every year
Daronte Jones had never coordinated a defense before, has lost a bunch of his best players, and has people thinking he is Romeo Crennel
Those guys grow on trees. You get LSU’s athletes in the building, find the best way to counter these offenses, and just get out the way.

I think you add that in with him only being a head coach for almost two years and that's probably why Woody has him down the list. Woody goes after guys who have a longer track record as HC, just his style.

Was very impressive. Held #1 overall pick Lawrence to 0 TD passes and Etienne well under 100 yards. They were also 1 for 11 on 3rd down efficiency.

Uh huh, so you say Riley over what you see in Dave. How long has Riley been the HC at OU? When has he fielded a championship D ?
Posted on 11/21/21 at 12:13 pm to Lester Earl
Lester, you coach in the now, and you trust your coach to make good hires in the future.

Agree to disagree then. I think the defense has largely sucked this year. Hell Kentucky took us to the woodshed
Certainly improved once we changed schemes (which proves my point that scheme matters) but daronte couldn’t even rich rod with ULM talent.
Aranda with Baylor talent shut down Lincoln Riley

Kirby has had problems on offense and hasn’t won anything yet. That being said I think they have the best team this year but offense has always been the knock on UGA since Kirby has been there.

I don’t care about Riley’s D at OU
His teams are built for his conference
