I've been 100% all-in on Aranda since before Ed even got the interim title. Aranda is going to prove out to be an incredibly powerful head coach at his next job.

And now the board has pretty much given up on him and just wants the guy from Chokelahoma, who isn't leaving there.

So now I'm just gonna kick back and watch. It'll either be a really good hire or a spectacular letdown.

As soon as I saw this name, I didn’t even give the body of this book he wrote any time.

Oh look another Napier fan boy and moronic thread by Lester Earl. I thought you would be gone with your master O.

I’ve wanted Kiffin from the beginning. I’ve been swayed a bit by Riley talk, but Kiffin should be the hire.

Not sure he’s even being considered.

The argument for Amanda goes beyond the schemes. He has the demeanor for the job.

The perils of hiring a defensive minded coach is that you have to nail the offensive coordinator hire. Outside of Nick Saban, who obviously gets the best players, is there another defensive coach that does this consistently & fields championship level teams? If so, let’s talk.

Kirby smart. Fat Chaney sucked. Monken isn't much better at all he's running a 2011 offense.

Disclosure: I like Dave Aranda, I trust Dave Aranda more than any defensive minded coaching prospect out there.
Not saying much considering how few defensive minded prospects there are this year. Still, I believe you are sincere.

I take it for what it is. There's been very little criticism of Aranda because there is very little to criticize. It's a stretch to say his defensive mindset is a negative. Everyone comes from somewhere, but to suggest that Aranda's offensive experience level will result in a long term drag on his career as a head coach is weak. TBH, if I knew I had a secure position, I would have no problem hiring Aranda as an OC and would be very confident it only would take a couple years for him to achieve success. I'm not saying Aranda should be calling plays any time soon, but if anyone can figure out how to assemble a coaching staff and run an organization successful on both sides of the ball, I believe he can.

I also disagree with your main argument. I think that steady solid defenses build a sustained program as well or better than offensive mindsets.

Aranda vs Kiffin: Aranda had a couple missteps. He was in his first year as a head coach. Kiffin has almost made a career out of taking over new teams. Not a level comparison.

And if Aranda at LSU gets into the situation that OC under him is just a stepping stone, then that's a great problem to have. It will mean that he has reached Saban's level of success, and even then it doesn't mean he won't end up with a Venables type of long term coordinator. There's no reason why coaching turnover should be any different than for any other program. The more successful you are, the more you have to deal with it.

Actually a good point I've brought something up similar. I'd rather have an offensive mind but I'd still love Aranda hire.

Very few times I actually agree Lester Earl but this is one of them. I do think Aranda is a very good coach but the hiring would make me extremely nervous because he could be a great hire or a flop.

I would take him over Kiffin or Jimbo though because I don't consider either one to be a great offensive mind.

I would rather have a GREAT offensive mind as head coach. Saban gets away with it because of his system of perfection and holding everyone accountable. There's just not another Saban out there and probably never will be.
