HARRISON, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris plans to revive a theme park south of Harrison that closed nearly 30 years ago.
quote:
Located in Newton County and just south of Harrison, Dogpatch USA was developed as a theme park based on the Li’l Abner comic strip and operated from 1968-1993, according to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas. Throughout its history, it has changed hands multiple times.
quote:
The property was purchased in 2020 by Johnny Morris, Bass Pro Shops founder and CEO, with a sales price of $1.12 million. Morris did not announce any specific plans at the time, other than a general plan to “restore, preserve and share” the property.

Back in 1978. I've also been to Booger Hollow.

Oh, my parents took me in the early 80's a few times. Don't remember the name of that ride in the 5th picture, but it was awesome.
Overall, the park sucked and we liked going to Silver Dollar City better.

Drive by it fairly often when out for mountain drives. Great roads..

That was the barrel ride. It was similar to the Gravitron ride at the state fair except riders could move all over the place.
Here are photos from the 50's of similar rides at Cedar Point and Coney Island:

Yep, 1974ish - Mom's Oldsmobile 98 broke down in Russellville and it took us an extra day to get there. I remember you could catch trout in a fake stream and they would fry it up for you.

Went in 1970 and caught a bunch of trout in the lake. We used corn kernals for bait. Followed that up with a spelunking trip in Diamond Caves which was way more fun.

Wife and I went for our Honeymoon in 1985. How is that for white trashy.

Been there done that it was fun feeding the trout.

Early 70's, I think. Don't remember much about it.

My grandparents took me in 1976. What I remember most is being scared while riding in the mountains in the way.

When I would go visit my grandparents in Shreveport during the summer, they would take me. All I remember is being forced to eat a raw chicken leg by my grandma, my older sister intervened for me for the first and only time in my life, my grandma STILL insisted, and then was saved when a mouse scurried across a ledge of the booths. I was 5. That’s my memory of DogPatch USA. It would have been 1977.

I've been there. Caught a fish and dumped a gallon can of corn in the fishin' hole. Hillbillies weren't happy

I thought Dogpatch was just a nickname for Ruston.
