and just $2M from the top paid football coach across all levels including the NFL?
Norman, OK must be a magical place. NFL coaches don’t even pass that up.
Tells me that someone doesn’t WANT to be at LSU will all the wonderful toys. To each their own.

Can you post a link stating where he has declined?

He has a freaking game this weekend.
What exactly are people expecting here?
I hope he loses.

I'm not trivializing $12.5m or whatever's being reported.
But if he gets a bump up to $9-10m at OU, is $12.5m a year life-changing money? A dramatic change in lifestyle? IMO, for Riley to leave his current situation, the primary reason for leaving would have to be something other than money. But we'll see.

Once youre in a place and settled with wife and family, its hard to just get up and move.
The guy knows he will have money for generations.
Money isnt the end all be all to everyone where they will jump for a 20% raise.

But the house his wife designed, but the young kids, but the recruiting classes, but the pay raise, but Baton Rouge is the worst place in America, blah, blah, blah
If Lsu did offer that contract to Riley and he doesn't come so be it. He can be Tiger bait in the Sec in a few years.

Maybe OU makes him the highest paid coach.

You didn’t know that Disney’s Magic Kingdom is based on Norman OK?

Assuming an offer was made and if made was turned down...or accepted.
When you start promising upper 7 to lower 8 figures, money is not as big of a consideration as you might think. Guys like Riley have the generational wealth thing pretty much locked up AT OKLAHOMA....or TAMU or the like.

Someone who perhaps wasn't offered, or the amount is misrepresented, or is false and drummed up by the perspective hires' team?
Things that make you go hmmmmm.

People do what THEY want or feel THEY need. I know y’all don’t understand this but NOT EVERYONE IS NOT MOTIVATED BY MONEY ALONE.
Google why people leave companies. Geez.

I don’t see why people think the only things that matter are a little better shot at winning NCs and more money. These guys are real life human beings with wives and kids and neighbors and friends, and churches and pastors, and charitiesl etc…Roots, roots Riley has planted for 7 years in Norman.
And they have staffs who are real human beings with all the same things that the HC does, except with much less money and much less job security that he has to ask to uproot and follow him. And Riley likely has to make a decision without having ever spent significant time in what will be his new home city, if he’s ever stepped foot in it at all.
I don’t know this for sure, but Riley strikes me as a more conservative guy, and some brief research on the mayor of Norman and the governor of Oklahoma make them seem to be much more aligned with the Riley’s values than Broome and Edwards.
There’s just so much more to these huge moves than money, especially now when the top coaches are all worth 10s of millions of dollars. Big difference in 1999 between 400k and 1.2 million. But is there that big a difference between 10 and 12 million? Is it worth the gamble of giving up what seems to be a pretty perfect setup in Norman to go to a place that literally just shitcanned the HC of the best team in college football history like 20 months later.
And the argument against that is competitors don’t think like that. And you’re probably right. But do they think they can’t win at the school they’re at when they’ve been to the semi finals in 3 of the last 4 seasons? Do you really think Riley has conceded he simply can’t win an NC at OU? Would a competitor think like that? You are contradicting yourselves and talking out of both sides of your mouth with that “true competitor” argument.

2.5 million a year over 7-8 years
Makes a difference to anyone.
And he will never win a NC with OU in the SEC
Posted on 11/18/21 at 12:23 pm to Prominentwon
If that was offered he should be on a tight deadline to decide. If it takes too long he doesn’t want to be here. Move on to the next guy before he’s gone.

Job security is a big deal. The hardest thing for head coaches to get is job security, and Riley has tons of that. 9-4 won't ever get him fired at OU, but it could certainly get him fired at LSU. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that 10 years at 8 mil a year is better than 4 years at 12 mil a year.
