No, Linda was the photographer from the beginning

I'm talking about in terms of a Beatle "bringing significant others into the studio."

Was Linda brought in by Paul to basically be a part of the recording sessions prior to John with Yoko?

And another thing that stood out to me was even though John was obviously out of it mentally and ready to move on, he was still pretty engaged when he needed to be. I can't imagine that is easy to do when you're knee deep in heroin. But I kinda alluded to it before in the thread, how it was pretty incredible to see how "on" he is when he decides to turn it on.

Have you heard the isolated vocals?

Youtube

no i had not, pretty cool. It blows my mind they did all of this in the studio at this point. All of the feed back is internal and whatever girlfriend or suit that is around.

Booker T and MGs do an awesome instrumental version of something too

After finishing the series...

(Keeping in mind that this is still Jackson's edited vision of what happened, and he did not want a depressing presentation.)

John - not the dour zombie thrall being puppeteered by Yoko that I'd envisioned. His love and respect for Paul seemed pretty obvious.

Paul - about what I expected. The most creative, savvy, driven of the bunch. I suspect that he "allowed" John to be the leader all of those years to provide a buffer so that he could retreat to being the creative force when needed.

George - heartbreaking to see an amazing musician at his peak, struggling to get his art out while maintaining second-string status in the greatest musical group of all time. Dick Cavett once asked George if John and Paul held him back. George answered, "Subtly." I don't see how anyone can listen to the All Things Must Pass album (that George threw himself into after the breakup) and think that he was just a decent guitarist who was along for the ride.

Ringo - literally the heartbeat of the band. You see him sitting there providing the beat through every nonsensical jam as Lennon and McCartney kill time and get their creative juices going. Never a sense of frustration as he just segues from serious practice to silly parodies, following along and providing the backbone for everything that the leaders do. The fact that Ringo, the most popular and famous of the early Beatles kept his shite together for that decade is amazing.

Yoko - after seeing this I'm wondering if she wasn't the lightning rod that kept the fans from blaming George or any of the other Beatles for the breakup. I still think she was a whacko and a bad influence, but it appeared that her intrusion at this point was minimal.

it was heartbreaking watching George wanting to release a solo album so he can release some of his energy. He is very self aware in that moment.

a lot of people are saying he was just along for the ride. I actually think his personality was 100% needed to keep it going as long as it did. quiet, listened and a complete pro.

Also just seems like a good hang.

And it was sort of touching in a way that he even considered doing his own shite in order to still keep "the Beatles thing" going. I always figured he wanted out more than anybody else (and he likely still did), but it was kinda cool to see him still have a desire to want to keep the train rolling, or at least be open to it.

But it's going to be tough to top the Hulu special with Rick Rubin and Paul McCartney (McCartney 3, 2, 1). That shite was absolutely amazing if you're remotely a music fan.

That was awesome shite!

Paul's recall of sessions and other events from 60 + years ago is just ridiculous.

George was like the Scottie Pippen of music. Obviously an all-time great in his own right but there are 100 guitarists you could have put in Harrison's place and the Beatles still would have been the greatest band of all-time due to Lennon and McCartney.

It's not just Harrison's talent level. It's the fact that he was two to three years younger than the other Beatles, which is a huge thing when you're a young teen building a band (and in your twenties you still look up to the older guys from high school). It's also his temperament, which allowed him to have the patience to stay in a band where he was third on the creative pecking order and last in fan popularity. You could've plugged in a Clapton or Hendrix, but how long would those guys put up with Lennon and McCartney begrudgingly allowing them to take some of the creative spotlight?

Linda is also FAF

Yes she was. RIP.

And that's the thing that always got me about John. I mean, you're John fricking Lennon, you have dimes crawling at your feet and throwing their panties at you and can have your choice of any of them and yet you settle for Yoko.

"yesterday" was "Scrambled Eggs" for a while while Paul kicked it around. The lyrics usually came last.

Here's in interesting Q&A session with Billy Preston at what I assume was some Beatles-themed convention.

Billy had an infectiously great personality.

Also, I learned he wrote You're So Beautiful by Joe Cocker.

Hey Jude recording sessions with archival footage

18 mins. First 5 mins is reconstructed footage with demo audio, but later the audio matches up with the footage. Almost feels like a continuation of the Get Back movie.

The Yesterday movie had so much promise. But, was so poorly done. Would have been great to see how these songs would be viewed if there were released for the first time today.
